 Boeing C-135C Swimming upstream for last time 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs January 20 2006 01/20/06 – EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – Crew members of the C-135C tail number 669, also known as Speckled Trout, watch the aircraft complete its fini-flight after taxiing underneath the fire department water cascade on Jan. 13. The aircraft not only served in support of senior military leaders with worldwide airlift for 31 years, but it conducted avionics and communications testing at Edwards. Capt. John Kilareski, 412th Flight Test Squadron, and Maj. Raymond Ouellette, 412th FLTS, both piloted the retiring aircraft during it’s farewell flight.

Not a bad looking VIP taxi. Trust me, the USAF has plenty more luxurious limos with which to shuttle around the cheesy pols and major suckups.

+1 Something downright elegant about 4 engined aircraft, especially this one with the old style sleek nacelles (pre high-bypass turbofans). |

I love the fully polished sections as accents. That's always classy.
The C135 series aircraft is very similar to the 707 but there are several crucial differences. One, the fuselage of the 135s is 18 inches narrower than the fuselage of a 707. The 707 fuselage is also perfectly round, while the 135's is by necessity a bit oval as it's the same height as the 707 fuselage. The wings can also be seen to be very different at the roots in comparison to a 707. Outside of those differences, there's a lot of commonality between the two series. The 135 began production BEFORE the 707. My father flew over 8000 hours in his USAF career as a pilot. Of those 8000 plus hours, over 6000 of them are in RC-and KC-135s. I wonder how many airframe hours/pressurization cycles are on the Speckled Trout? Was it retired for airframe life considerations or just because the brass wanted something newer? CJ |

Thats a shame, buddy of mine just got a job working it a year ago, guess he's job shopping again. I was about to email him to see if they had any openings.
 We do a nice job of VIP flying with the C-17s and the "silver bullet". The 4 stars don't seem to mind it too much, and we can fly them anywhere in the AOR without changing planes. The old trout had no IRCM/ECM so it had to drop them off to ride a 130 or 17 in theater anyway. The new BBJs (C-40B) do a great job too.

The B-47 is like a Great Dane that thinks it's a Chiwawa. Fast and feisty fighter trapped in the body of a bomber. I too have a big soft spot for that aircraft. |

The Air Force is thining out the herd. Not too many C-135's left that use those engines, plus it is about ready fo a major rework, so it was time for it to go. The US Navy "rented" that plane for training pilots for the Tacamo E-6B. That kept it in the air for a few years longer. So what was the original Boeing name of the C-135?
