What are the service sidearms of various military forces?

America fields the M9 (and occasionally a SIG or 1911 or HK).

France carries a Beretta clone.

Great Britain fields the P35? I think?

What about Germany? Russia? Mexico? Italy (Beretta, I assume)? Belgium? Scandihoovian countries? Eastern Europe? Japan? China? Spain? Luxembourg? Turkey? Greece?

What do other countries use for a service sidearm? Which is the most common military handgun? Does anyone use anything aside from 9mm anymore?

Inquiring minds want to know.

(Don't tell my wife, but my eventual goal is to own every pistol issued by a major military in the world!!! It's a laudable goal and I shall not sleep until I can have military sidearm solidarity with almost everyone!! Diversity kicks ass, gun-wise.)

The Brits have changed, or are changing, to the Sig

I think the Germans use USPs.

The Austrians and Norweigens(I think) use Glocks

Denmark still uses the SIG P210 (Good luck buying that - the prices are insane, even used

), but also issues a 9mm Glock (whatever model that is - Glock 17?) to some specialized units.

Japan has the Sig 220, IIRC. Russia and China have a mix of obsolete handguns, but are transitioning to home grown 9mms.

Japan used to use the M1911A1 (Japanese official military name 11.4mm handgun).
Now they use a slightly modified Sig Sauer P220 (Officially called the 9mm handgun).
The P220 is produced under license by Minber (Miniver?).

I heard that the reason that the P220 was chosen was because of the hard to lose design mag.

At least part of the French military uses the Sig Pro....in fact, IIRC, the Sig SP2022 was being used by the French a while before it was released in the US.

I thought Britain had used Hi Powers for the longest time until recently.

The Croatian Army uses the HS2000. (Imported to the US as the XD9.)

Hipower and Sig 226, IIRC. I don't know if they issue the sig widely, but thats what KevinB has on him in the pics....

And a question: Who uses the CZ P-01? Or any CZ's, for that matter?

And someone around here has to know what sort of pistol is used by the Mexican army.

The Czech Republic uses the CZ-75. Also some foreign police agencies issued the CZ-75 and some other variants. I think some middle eastern countries also used the CZ-75, but all i ever see in photos are P-35's and TT33's.

R.O.Korea military uses Daewoo DP-51 in 9mm caliber.
Peoples Rep. of Korea's official issue is their Takarov copy.
Italy uses... Beretta92

Mexico I believe still uses 1911A1 as does Thailand and Philippines
China's official side arm is still their Makarov copy
Singapore will (or did recently) move on to Glock 17 I believe.

UK and Ireland still have Brownings Hi-Powers. Both countries' pistols are well beyond their service lives. Ireland had selected a SIG for a replacement, but held up, waiting to see what the new standard Western pistol calibre would be. The British are also holding up, more for budget reasons, but are issuing the L85A2K as a PDW to certain soldiers (AFV crews, mainly) instead.
