I'm dropping my paperwork in the mail tomorrow.  Just curious if anyone else has done this recently and how long the wait might be.  BATFE said things have sped up recently and will probably take between 3 & 4 months.

If what I just went through is sped up, i'd hate for it to be slow.

Bet on 4 to 5 months. If you're lucky they'll process your application into the system when they get it, not two to three weeks afterward.

I was hoping to get going quicker than that.

You may or may not.  Depends on who ends up with your stuff and all. I know a lot of the hold up is the fingerprints.

Don't get discouraged. It takes time, and this is only my experience.

Call and ask a week or so after they receive your app. (You did remember to request a return receipt, right?) Find out what date it was actually processed into the computer. They count the '90-day-window' in business days. M-F, holidays excluded.

I haven't sent it yet, will do that tomorrow.  I will ask for a return receipt, now.  Thanks for the info!

Good luck. I have been waiting for my 03 renewal for 4 months. It took 3 calls before the clerk admitted they lost the application. I was faxed a duplicate which was processed the next day. The license was "issued" on Jan 13. Still waiting....

Yikes....How does the renewal process work?  Are you authorized to continue business as usual even if you do not receive the renewal before your current expires or do you physically have to have the new one in hand to keep running?

I haven't looked much into the renewal process yet as this will be my first FFL.
