They are having this auction about 20 miles from the house on saturday. I called the auction company and the secretary emailed some pics since all the ad in the paper mentioned was "guns".

A few interesting pieces but I was confused on pics #5 and #7 and was wondering if they are backwards according to the description, can anybody help me out on the ID please ? I don't really need a .375 H&H but I am curious what the price will work out to on #1. Might check out the S&W snub-nosed as well. The main reason I am going is to see what the MAK90 goes for and will bid on it if it is a steal plus I've got to bid on #11 for my ex-father-in-law because he collects those Browning auto shotties.

Anybody bought firearms at these types of auctions before ? I'm curious how high the starting bids will be, the person I talked to had no idea. They'll probably come out with some BS like "and here we have a Marlin .22, starting bid $1000, do I hear $1000"  Will be interesting to see since the auction is out here on a farm in the middle of nowhere, I wonder how many people will show up.

Here in southern MO the papers are full of auction notices, and if there are guns in the sale it will be in bold letters and list every one of them.

 The 5th gun down is a Browning B92 in either 44 mag or 357 mag. If you can get it for no more than $350, assuming it is in at least good condition, get it.
 The 7th gun down is possibly a Browning 71. In the pic it looks like a take down. You need to look at that one too. It could be a later Winchester (Japanese) 1886 take down. If it goes cheap pick it up. Probably 45-70 if it's a Winchester or 348 if it's a Browning. Could be a Wild West take down conversion in 450 or 500 Alaskan. I would at least take a look at it. Sure looks like a takedown. Most people don't know what they are.
 The tang sight makes that one a little more interesting. The recoil pad is not original.

some were way too high,

If the Winchester M97 shotgun is authentic and not a Chinese clone, it might be worth some money. It isn't the riot version, so I doubt it.

Also: Anything .454 Casull has piqued my interest.

Thanks for the advice, that is why I was curious in the original post about those items. Something didn't look right. The 5th one does look like a Browning 92 after looking at some other pics. Not sure on the 7th one. I will check them out in person Saturday and see what happens. I'm gonna take $1000 and see if anything stays low or starts out that way. Like I said before this is out in BFE so I am curious what the turnout will be especially for firearms since the majority of the auction is farm equipment and the piece of property it all resides on.

I spotted it as well.  The finest auto shotty made IMHO.

Nothing else will "speed feed", it is a Browning only feature.

Maybe a Ruger Vaquero in .45 LC. I think the more incorrect they are in the descriptions the better, maybe they will screw up the starting bids and they will go low.

I think #5 probably is a 92 Puma, #7 is a Browning, the Model 83 F/A is the jewel.

Have to go for the browning A5, I have one my Dad left me, best shotgun I ever had, or will have, hell of a bird gun. They fetch a premium to, can't really tell condition, but I wouldn't pass it up, be prepared to dig deep, if anyone there knows their guns.

ETA: I found something on antique appraisals that said in fair condition a 5000 serial number would bring $1300. Excellent condition brings upwards of $4000

I used to go to all kinds of Farm Auctions  before 1986 when good deals  could be had

All the auctions I have been to sucked ass. The auctioneer would start the Marlin 22 at $200(like you said). No one bids on it. He starts lowering the price, no one bids. Price finally gets down to something reasonable like $50 then everyone starts bidding. Before you know it the price is at $250, and the winner has a big shit eating grin on his face.

I've never seen a gun at an auction sell for less than you could have bought a brand new one for.

Part of the reason could have been the part of Kentucky I lived in was full of Amish people. They didn't have drivers licenses, so they couldn't buy firearms through gun shops or walmart. They'd have to buy them out of the paper or at auctions.

I would love to be able to buy both Ithacas, especially since they are most likely old ones.

I go to auctions from time to time. Sometimes there are things I will be after, most of the time just looking. The auctioneers can whip the crowd into such a frenzy, it gets way out of hand. At a resturant auction one time, they were getting to the knives, forks and spoons. The lot of about 6oo pieces went for $1400, and this was plain stuff, not silver. Same thing, the buyer looked like he won the lotto. A good auctioneer, can really make you some money. I have only bought a few things at auctions, and it was never what I went for, just somthing that looked good, and nobody else was bidding on.
