Took these at the Fort Jackson Museum this weekend. The T-30 has a 155 mm maingun and a humongous
turret. The Pershing used to sit atop "Tank Hill" next to the water tower.

T30 Heavy Tank

"This experimental heavy tank was developed in 1947 and sported a 155mm gun. Its weight made it impractical for operations in Europe, and the project was canceled. "

Apparently only six prototypes were built. One is at Fort Knox. These puppies are huge!

Apparently only six prototypes were built. One is at Fort Knox. These puppies are huge!

There's one in Aberdeen. The T-29 was pretty much the same tank, just with a smaller gun.

There's like more than a dozen different tanks out there.

The collection I really liked was the one out at Fort Irwin's intel group but when they left the collection got broke up. Basically they had one Russian tank from the T-34 up to the T-70 on display along with some other odd Soviet era stuff - comm trucks, Szu AA mount, motorcycles ...

You mean down to the T-70? It was an early-war light tank, heavily armoured, almost to early T-34 levels, but only had a 45mm gun.

The "Chaffee" looks more like the M-41 Walker Bulldog. The Chaffee had a smaller turret and its gun didn't have a muzzle brake.

That is an M-41

The Chaffee has a bow machine gun anf short 75mm gun.

The T28 Full Tracked Super HEAVY TANK sits in front of the Patton Museum, at Ft Knox. Ive climbed on this beast, and its huge.

That's next on the agenda. We were headed there last year, but Hurricane Rita changed our plans.

Hopefully, this year.

That could work. To my surprise, the T-70 came out a year or two after the T-34.

However, the 'Chronological' claim fails on the basis that the Ft Irwin OPFOR museum had cold-war equipment.

(Of course, I think he meant to say T-72)

Apparently a drunk driver ran into one.

No, it makes no sense to me either.

Best tank collection in the US is Littlefield's in the San Francisco area. Hands down.

For some reason, looking at that T28... should have some Holst playing, The Planets: Mars, God of War.

Imagine that thing coming at you, big stadium speakers like that movie with Donald Sutherland, Mars playing at 130 db.

Bet that would losen some bowels.
