Usually wait for the DVD just because I like doing things in my own time frame. Did take the family out to see King Kong to get the big screen effect.

wait for DVD, movie tickets are $8ish anyhow, and there's no pause, deleted scenes, etc if you see a flick in the theatre.  That being said I do see about 1 or 2 shows in the theatre a year max, last one was Serenity, on the other hand I buy 50+ DVD's a year

Loudmouthed jackasses on cellphones.

Loudmouthed jackasses who loudly comment on aspects of the movie to thier loudmouthed, jackassed friends.

10 bucks for a bucket of popcorn.

6 bucks for soda.

Warm, slightly tacky substance on armrests.

The shit on the floor that gets stuck to the bottom of your shoes, so that you go scritch scritch scritch scritch when you walk for the next day and a half.

The 350lb fat chick next to my wife that smells like corn.

The 13 year old behind me, repeatedly kicking the seatback.

The tongue-and-tonsil-swap couple in front of me.

Thanks but no thanks.....I'll wait for the DVD.

Last film I went to was "Serenity", just because it DESERVED to be supported (have bought copies of "Firefly" and "Serenity" for both myself and my kids).

Before that.... I don't really remember when I've been.

Jurrasic Park 2, Lost In Space, Starship Troopers when I living in MS so that was like 96-97, oh and the re-release of Episode IV in San Diego.

The "theater experience" sucks ass.  FAR more vaule for the dollar in doing it at home.

I only go to the movies if it's something that deserves to be seen on the big screen, like King Kong, or if it's something my son wants to see.

Sheep,

I don't remember you being over at our house for movie night.....

I haven't been out to see a film since I started subscribing to netflix.

They have (nearly) everything I want to see and i get to watch it on my plasma / surround sound while  in my bathrobe.

I can't even get into a movie theater in a bathrobe.

More and more it's wait for DVD ... Last few theter experiences have sucked (bad sound, morons yapping through the movie, commercials, etc...). With a nice big screen, and Dolby Digital home theater the only movies worth going to are the ones I'm REALLY excited about. Gone are the days where we'd go to the movies just to go out.

Probably saw 2-3 movies in the theater last year. 10 years ago it would be 2-3 movies a month.

If I can get someone to go with me to the theater, I will go.

Problem is that I can't always get someone to come along, so then I'll wait for the DVD.

I usually wait for the DVD to come out. However, I wil go to the theater to see movies like Black Hawk Down, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars, etc . . .

Around 8pm last night my girlfriend and I wanted to get out, and were going to head over to a bookstore. As we passed a theater we noticed that Memiors of a Geisha was playing (a movie we both wanted to see) so we pulled in and she checked the time it started while I waited in the truck. Turned out it was just starting so I parked and paid for two tickets. $16 !! The last time I went to a theater tickets were, I think, $5 a piece. You can sometimes BUY the damn movie in DVD for $16 or less.

We went into the screening room and found some good seats. It was the last showing of the night. Not a lot of people. A few couples scattered about the room. Yet STILL there was audible chatter. Not much, but near the end of the film a group of 4 across the aisle from us started to get on my nerves. The movie was nearly over and the instant the final scene ended, and before the credits actually began, all 4 popped up and almost jogged up the aisle. Two couples, looked high school young in the dark.

At home we agreed: it's more enjoyable to watch movies at home like we'd been doing than sit in a theater.

I only go to the theaters for an event or big deal, like taking my daughter out for a treat.
I had planned to go see Narnia, but looks like I'll be waiting for the DVD now.  8.50X2 + 15 bucks for snacks+ stupid commercials before the movie has really decreased my enjoyment of theaters..
Hell the matinee is even 5.50 now!
Last movie I saw was Serenity, it was worth the crap, but most movies aren't....

With Hollywood's piss poor writing slump they are in plus thier astounding ability to rehash old movies, [c'mon, how many times do we have to see King Kong].  I don't bother to go to the theater unless on a date.

Also, I will rent a movie before I make the decision to purchase it.
