Got it in a picture, didn´t spot the .VBS end till it was too late. Everything expect my JPG files are OK, the picture JPGs are rat s*** now, turned them into like 11.2kb files. Ran my PC with a Finnish F-Prot program, seems it disinfected the files but id like to restore the JPGs since they hold my military and weapons pictures, and have collected the over a long period and would like to hang on to them. HELP!!!

It is over 5AM here and i have things to do early today, vittu PERKELE SAATANA, so my night is will be spent with this F***** virus, my RPMs are pretty revved up right now, perkele.

Come on guys, help me out here. I really, need help on this PERKELEEN virus. Sure there are computer experts around this board, right.

I got hit with the virus at work.  Not a pretty picture since most of what our Geoscience division takes a lot of pictures.  The I love you virus has a randomizer that will either hit JPGs or BMPs.  We lost any files that were hit.  Run Antivirus software, inoculate/isolate the corrupted files, then chuck 'em.  If you click on a infected file, the cycle starts all over again.

If you don't have Norton Antivirus 2001, Go out and purchase a copy ASAFP.  In the meantime you can download a copy off the following website:

Trust me when I say that I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. But I must ask, how does anyone get a computer virus? I been surfing the web for years downloading crap from everywhere and never got a virus. Am I lucky or smart enough to know what is legit and what is not?
There is one thing I do avoid and can't wonder why no one else would do the same and that is I don't open "unknown" e-mails. E-mails with addresses that are unknown or look like thet are from porn sites, strange names, etc are immediately deleted.
Also, e-mails with topics such as "CHECK OUT THIS PIC!!", "CHECK OUT THIS DEAL!", "JUST WANTED TO SAY HELLO" OR "I LOVE YOU" and you don't know who the sender is, you may want to delete it. You may have just saved yourself from a virus or at least some bad trash mail.

Edited to add this part. I wonder how those business computers became affected by the famous "I LOVE YOU" virus. WHY are business people using business computers to open up e-mail entitled "I LOVE YOU"? That doesn't sound like a business e-mail to me. Dumbf*cks deserved it.

And remember, make backup copies of files/programs you want saved.

I too have surfed the net and didn´t even have an anti virus program, did not need it since i have been cautious about things suspicious, this was just a picture file and i did not notice the .vbs as a virus or then i thought it was a another format, had heard about them but was tired and made a mistake.

InTheBlack, you must be lucky I guess.  Where I used to work, people were getting hit all the time.  They were using Outlook, and the default settings are no so good.  One lady across from me got infected 3 times in 1 month.  She was in the habit of reading her mail first thing in the morning.  She would open the first message and then close it.  Outlook would automatically open the next unread message without asking.  When it opened a new message, blamo.  Even with virus software her machine still got infected.  Finally, she got in the habit of deleting suspicious messages before opening any.

I got hit once several years ago.  There was a virus on the drivers disk of a video card I bought.  Fortunately, I was building a new machine, so I did not lose anything.  I called the manufacturer to complain, and they already had several other people that lost everything.  Right now, Code Red is hitting my firewall real hard.  My log got full in just 4 hours.  I think the question should be, "with so many crooks and idiots on the net, how come it hasn't collapsed?"
