I'd like to find out as well.

I've seen a ffew AR10 at shows that seemed like a good value, but I'm clueless...

Just to be a contrarian...PTR-91.

But they don't have chrome-lined bores/chambers, so forget it. Get a FAL or AR-10. I am one of the few people who don't like FALs, but even I will say that you really can't go wrong with a DSG FAL.

Does "best value" mean inexpensive, or something else?

What's it to be used for?

Remington 7400 is a good hunting rifle, if that's what you're after and you must have semi-auto.

As someone who used to own a CETME but now has an FAL... I must suggest you get an FAL.

I'm gonna scare you but here goes. Pony up and buy a real FN Herstal, Belgium FAL. Cost you about $2500.  Will only go up in value.

Plan B. If you want a wood stock buy a genuine Beretta BM62 imported by the Berban Corp. Cost $1600 to $1800.

FAL or M1A, and here’s why…

Parts.

The FAL was used all over, so you should be able to get replacement parts for years to come. The M1A was used by the US Military (as the M-14) so you can find plenty of parts for it too.

The Armlite version of the AR-10 is probably an excellent rifle. If parts weren’t an issue it might even be the best choice. But there’s no guarantee that it will even be in production in 10 years and there’s no reserve of military surplus parts and accessories to fall back on.

For the FAL and STG58 (which is just a FAL in Austrian clothing.)

And for the M1A

(One thing to remember is that you not only have to buy the rifle you also have to buy magazines and accessories. Check the prices on the FAL magazines from DSA. That’s one reason the FAL is a good value.)

Thank you,

Value as the only criteria?

OK, one of those Norinco M1A's or a new PTR-91.

Without valid criteria, this is a fruitless exercise.

DSArms Fal deliveries are around 15 weeks, based on their third estimate of 2-3 weeks from today. Story sort of shifts, depending on who I talk to there.

I've got to pull my records and see how long it took to get an AYA 12 gauge built from scratch. I think Spain is winning here.
