My vote is for Platoon Leader. Michael Dudikoff was great.
When I saw this movie, all I could think was "that's what it must have been like"! |
I'll second that..We Were Soldiers, with Full Metal Jacket coming in at a close second
I agree, but the other way around. Apocalypse Now comes in third. |
We Were Soldiers had a lot of potential, but they spoiled it by egregious hip-shooting and by casting Greg Kinnear as the heroic pilot.
FMJ first came to mind but +1 to the above order |
Full Metal Jacket
We Were Soldiers Apocolypse Now Redux Forest Gump Platoon Charlie MoPic Hamburger Hill |
We Were Soldiers was one of THE best war movies I've ever seen....Full Metal Jacket was okay, but its the first half of the movie that puts it in the top 5 movies I've ever seen. Sorry Motown Steve, kinda ignored you're options....my bad
I didn't think that the Vietnam part of FMJ was that great. |
Hmmmm...
We Were Soldiers Full Metal Jacket Apocalypse Now. In that order and damn near interchangeable. SG |
+ eleventy billion. SG |
Platoon
The Boys of Company C Full Metal Jacket Go Tell the Spartans Apocalypse Now We Were Soldiers All of them embraced the effect the war has on those who fight it. |
The Vietnam War part of FMJ didn't impress me either....but R Lee Ermey is my hero..I cried when Pvt. Pyle shot him...saddest movie I've ever seen...
One of the most intense parts in a movie were in the deer hunter on Vietnam, but I would have to go with We were Soldiers then FMJ,
What the fuck is Dumbo drop? |
Sucking Poles would be Brokeback Mountain , not Vietnam flicks |
FULL METAL JACKET
We Were Soldiers was also a great movie. How do you put Dumbo Drop on that poll and neither of the above two? it was OK at best; Air America was I think a movie more worthy of being on a list of top 'nam movies. |
Disney's dramatization of a true story about 2 green berets who along with a couple other soldiers and a young vietnamese boy have to get an elephant for a village along the Ho Chi Mihn trail to replace an elephant that was murdered by the communists. The villagers were budhists who believed that elephants were gods, and well it's a long story. |
How about an honorable mention for "The Boys in Company C" |
A Big +1 86 Charlie MoPic was good too!! |
Steve.............
you fucking suck! Operation Dumbo Drop....wtf is that? |
i liked that one too, but john wayne is kick ass |
we were soldiers, platoon, hamburger hill
these three are the best |
Forgot about that one, +1! |
Only two people for Hamburger Hill?
That would be my vote, only it isn't in the poll. |
Platoon Leader is the suck...the best part was the sound effect of the Plt Sgt's bastard shorty M16 and the knife that the dude with the shotgun had.
I never saw Iron Triangle Seige at Firebase Gloria has R Lee Ermey in it too and is Okay Operation Dumbo Drop is a damn good movie but it's not one of the greats, showed the human side of the war. Green Berets was the best until Hamburger Hill came out which was the best until We Were Soldiers came out. If you just wanted a poll to know which oof those five movies we like Okay, but if that is the limit to your Vietnam movie experience you need to head to the video store. We also have a movie Forum |
He left that off his poll. It was the ONLY one I have ever seen that had any accuracy to it at all and it was very accurate. The rest of them, IMHO, are just Hollywierd portraying most who served over there as either: idiots druggies crazed killers etc The Green Berets did not do that, but it also was unrealistic as hell, just like the rest of them. |
Apocolypse Now is my favorite, followed by Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.
FMJ and A Pack of Lips Now, starring Martin fucking Sheen, were total bullshit. |
Look 3 posts above yours for an explanation. |
OMG! What about Missing in Action!?!? And Missing in Action 2?!?!
I expect some roundhouse kicks to be administered in short fucking order! |
Apocalypse Now got fucking boring after the helicopter attack and FMJ sucked as soon as the Tet attack happened.
Not Coppala or Kubrick best work by a long shot |
Platoon Leader was everything I know about the Vietnam War, man. I was there, in the shit. I cry everytime I see that movie.
Michael Dudikoff should've won Best Actor at the Oscars. He should've won for his role in the American Ninja series. |
most vietnam movies really suck !!
But my favorite are We were Soldiers and Hamburger Hill Don't mean nothing, not a thing. |
I thought the book Platoon Leader was much better than the movie.
