I use this on ribs:

light brown sugar  (8 TB)
kosher salt (3 TB)
chili powder (3 TB)

2 tsp each of:

onion powder
black pepper
cayenne pepper
crab boil
thyme

Scale the amounts up or down as needed.  If you use table salt instead, just use 2 TB.

I usually use the KC Masterpiece BBQ blend or Montreal Steak seasoning.  However, I've got four 20oz Ribeyes to grill up tonight and I'd like to put something special on them.

I don't buy commercial spice rubs because almost all of them have way too much salt.  Salt's a lot cheaper than spices, so they use salt as a filler.

Grilling steaks?

kosher salt
black pepper
a little oil

That's all you need, but then I'm a purist when it comes to steaks.  I have had steaks with spice blends on them, and they can be darn good too if done well.

I use Tony's or Slap your Momma for chicken and Ribs but I add oregano, rosemary, thyme, and whatever else I am in the mood for.
For Steaks
Fresh ground black peper
Salt, sea salt  or kosher salt
Butter for additional flavor
Grill on a very hot grill flip once add butter
