Ive never done it but my buddy is ripping them for his I Pod and for my PSP. I dont know which program he uses but yes you have to rip the DVDs to a format that can be played by your IPOD.

Sorry ... Mac guy here .... pretty simple on a Mac ... Handbrake or MacTheRipper to rip the DVD to your harddrive and then Quicktime to convert for iPod ...
