OK, I’m sitting in class tonight trying to finish a second degree in engineering. The class is Advance Strength of Materials. We are calculating the stress on a 525ft long container ship in 10 seas…lots of other details but here is the story…

This guy in the back interrupts and says: Dr. Wolf, when we were in sub training we focused on putting a torpedo smack dead center below the ship. This caused the water to leave that area and thus caused excessive stress mid ship. This lack of support would cause the target ship to crack in two…OK, I say to myself. I am not military and I liked the story…sounds cool…THEN, some stinking fucking hippie across the room says…………………………………

“That’s mean”……

I shit you not….I laughed out loud and just about threw my Pentel .5mm pencil at him just to see if he was for real. Instead, since I had the room’s attention, I said... “It’s called peace through superior firepower”!….silence

Fucking liberals…and in an engineering class. That is all.

Showing up for an engineering class and holding down a real engineering job are two entirely different things.

Unless your hippie happens to be of the minority persuasion (and thus can get a token job for life), he'll probably either:

(1.) Change his major to theater, or
(2.) Use his engineering degree to land that cushy 2nd Assistant Manager job at McDonald's.

Liberal students in the engineering department?  Where was this?

At Idaho, the best way to get a guy conversation going was to talk about your 30-06.

Before class one day, I told my friend about an article in Handloader magazine.  Something about reloading in Manchuria in the 1930's, making shotshell powder by cutting up and cooking old nitrocellulose movie film.  I think every guy in class was talking about reloading or guns when the prof showed up.

We have a dem/lib engineer that recently migrated from NY in our office in SC.  I just don't understand why he moved to the south.  He can't stand when a few of us listen to Rush or Fox news.

I belong to an engineering frat.  Got a brother that came in from Berkeley.  That goes over well...

WTF does he want to do as an engineer?   Design 500 mpg econo death trap boxes?

They had an interesting show about this on the discovery channel.  It was mostly about how bubles mess up the boyance underneath a ship.  There was clips on how a missile detonated a far distance below the ship would collapse the structure and cause it to sink.  The show was about boats sinking on the bermuda triangle.

The instructer is old school. He thought the story was great. He has worked at Boeing, Lockheed, and GD. No one paid much attention to hippy boy. I ask a few more questions next week from the sub guy. The school is Oregon Institute of Technology...

I'm going to have with the hippy this term

Here's your chance to ejicate hippyboy.

Explain that it's not mean.

Mean is using a light munition torpedo to damage/distress the ship enough so other ships in the area attempt rescue.  Then torpedo those while calling in an air strike to strafe the life boats.

Now that's mean.

Tactics my long haired freak, tactics

We have an authentic socialist in my department - at least that is the philosophy he thinks we should follow.

I've also worked for a man that is suspect.

See...Now this is why I post here... Good sound advice. Thanks.

Had a few of them in my classes (it WAS Berkeley, after all).

Since graduation, NONE of them have jobs. One guy graduated late (6 years instead of 4), and he's looking forward to being a ticket taker for the Golden State Warriors. Another is a full time "volunteer" for Habitat for humanity.

So much for education.
