Ok, I was one of the first people on the infamous "waiting list" for the new FN PS90's. I actually happened to be at my local store when the FN rep was setting up shop and therefore I was among the very first to get on the list.

Anyway, I was first told it would be here in the Fall of '05. Later that was moved to End of the year '05....which I was told was a sure thing. Now we're rounding out January '06 and there's no end in sight. Since then, I've bought 14 boxes of SS195LF ammo @ $25/box. 6 magazines @ $65/piece. Bringing ,y total investment WITHOUT  the firearm to about $725 or so.

I was recently told the price of the PS90 would go up $200 to $1500.00. Bringing the total investment to about $2250 when its all said and done.

Thats a LOT of money for a .22 caliber low-power carbine with hard to find ammo and questionable terminal balistics. Today, I got to thinking about what other toys I could buy with $2250:

a) A new M4 Bushy with an ACOG on it AND a NEW Glock.

b)An FN Special Police Rifle 1A 308...a Leupold MK4 scope AND a NEW  CZ P-01

c) A Steyr Scout Rifle in .223....and a New Berretta PX4

d)An IMI UZI AND a NEW Benelli M1 Super 90

.....I could go on and on but you get my point. So I'll think about it for a couple more days but does this seem like a no-brainer? What says you?

Quitter.  You know you're eventually going to buy every gun you just mentioned, including the PS90.

Some people hae already received their PS90.  I believe CMMG shipped out a bunch a couple of weeks ago.   So hopefully it won't be much longer for you.

Do you go to the movies the first night of a big release, wait in line two hours, get to the window and then decide that you would rather rent Die Hard?  If so then this makes perfect sense.

I could see giving up a while back when they were nowhere in sight, but why, after going through all the bullshit, decide it's not worth it when they are being handed out?

Cheers

Sounds like a Ruger 10/22 in 22 magnum might be a better idea....

id say ditch the PS90 idead and sell what youve accumulated so far before too much value is lost. You already stated why it isnt looking too good.....a 22 cal gun with questionable ballistics, period.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't get 50 round mags for a Ruger 10/22 in .22 mag...

I say stay the course.  You will get it eventually.  I hear Ares is developing a belt-fed PS90 upper, maybe you should reserve one...

Bad analogy...I mean, c'mon, who doesn't OWN Die Hard?

The 5.7x28 SS190 Armor Piercing bullet can't even penetrate 10" of 10% gelatin.
From the accounts of some LEOs, it sounds like SS190 is more like SS109: steel penetrator tip w/ a core behind it. Remember the 62gr M855 bullet (SS109)? Steel penetrator with a lead core.
SS190 is a steel penetrator with an aluminum core (just so it can be light: 32 gr).

SS196/197 is about 40 cents a cartridge.
Mags are $60-$70 ea. There is no "high demand", there's just a lack of supply and price gouging at the moment. FN isn't doing much to help the ammo and mag situation. The stock reflex sight is also a POS. It needs either the USG black reticle sight or a rail for aftermarket optics.

If it were me, I'd bail

The price on these is likely to go down when the initial buzz wears off, or when little quirks become known.

You are right. $2,250 is a fair amount of money and it can provide some interesting options.

By 2H 2006 the prices on the PS90 will have cratered and you'll feel like a fool for having paid through the nose to buy one.  I expect them to flatten out to aorund $1000-$1200 once the hype cools.

They're cute.  I want one too, and my dealer has offered me a great price.  When it comes down to it, there are just so many other things of more utility that I could buy with the money.  Surefire lights, a nice scope, you name it - many things that'll enhance my current AR-15's.

Sell your ammon and magazines off to someone who has their PS90 now while the hype is high.

Around July if you still want a PS90, order one and also start the paperwork on a suppressor for it.

You may also be able to buy a used PS90 in 2H 2006 at a nice discount.

you could take that same chunk of cash and *almost* buy a MAC MG.
