Fixed now! I hope!...that will teach me to pull them straight off the photo server....

Fixed and they look great, much like the US Navy F-14, the Royal Navy has lost a fine aircraft with the Sea Harrier retirement.

BTW:  Rolls Royce Turbines are the shit, but jeeze that Pegasus is one loud MoFo.

Ok maybe I'm biased, Dad works for RR in Indianapolis, IN on the Allison designed POS 3007.

Putting their eggs in the F-35 basket.  A little premature, it seems.  Why not keep the FRS2s until the f-35 comes on line, if ever?  They are relatively new, I think.

taking off of that deck would be pretty interesting. Why did they decide to slope it up like that?

Thieir carriers do not use a steam catapult system, and at least with the Harrier, it can't do a vertical take off with full fuel and ordinance.  Also heard that having similar problems with the F-35

There is nothing wrong with the Harriers, plenty of life in them, more than enough to last till the F-35's come online.

The Admirals are pissed as hell, but the Politicians shitcanned the Sea Harriers to save money.

As one Politician told us.."The Royal Navy will not be engaging in offensive operations without the US alongside"....It apparently had not occured to the fuckwit that we just might be off doing something on our own...

ANdy

Nevermind the fact that it is not the responsibility of the U.S. to provide military services to the UK.  Fist we act unilaterally now we are required to do so because no one else has the tools?

Oh, and if this saves money for the UK imagine how much cancelling the orders for those two expensive carriers and F-35s will save.  Besides, the U.S. will be buying them so why should the UK waste money duplicating the capability?  Sorry, Andy, I see this going no other way for you guys.  You will never see those carriers or F-35s.

The ink's on the contracts and money has been spent...

$1.85 Billion by BAe to date on the F-35 and $500 million (plus a deal with the Phrench to help build a 3rd ofthe class for them) on the Carriers...

ANdy

Does the Phrench contract include a barrel of Loc-Tite 277 for the screws?

What? How could they forget the Falklands? There are times when British interest and American interests aren't the same.

The brits pioneered the steam catapult. Heck they pioneered two of the three most important developments for the modern carrier... steam catapult and angled flight deck. US pioneered atomic powered carriers.

You know, those carriers really need angled flight decks.

I think they're setup for an angled deck. If I remember correctly, the ski jump will be replaced with electromagnetic catapults when the tech matures.

Would have done a lot better and lost fewer ships if they had put ANYONE other than a SUBMARINER in charge of air assets.

And if it had to be a Submariner at least get one with the wisdom to let the pros do their job without being told HOW to do it.

I read Sandy Woodwards (Fleet Admiral)  book and Sharkey Wards (Commander 801 Squadron, Sea Harrier) book.
