Firefox 1.5 Sucks!

Ok...I've been running Firefox for years now. No problems untill....I just updated it about 3 days ago...and now it is running like shit. It crashes...doesn't run alot of videos...won't load full pages....the gif and animated pic here on ARFCOM won't run.....it runs slow.

Can't see any of the ads here on ARFCOM.

Can anyone help?

Ditto. Besides, I have too many useful plugins for Firefox to want to try some other browser.

ETA: Arbiter, uninstall, delete your Mozilla profile, and reinstall.

1) a bunch of plugins have problems with 1.5
uninstall or update them...

2) beware of long browser sessions.
1.5 leaks like a sieve. It helps if you exit the browser when it starts to page badly.

3) I think that there's a undocumented exploit floating around...
It's based on the wmf exploit from a month ago and it crashes firefox. Better than getting pwnt with IE. I guess

I had some problems with the betas and the 1.0x series. But since I've gone to release 1.5, not a single problem. And this is on 3 PCs, 2 linux machines and a Mac!

I'd try uninstalling FF, completely, including any plugins you had, and then reinstall 1.5.

It uses the IE engine. But then again, aparently im not a statistic cause I have never had security issues with IE (or really even XP for that matter). I like Maxthon cause its IE based, tabbed browsing, built in search engine(s), ad blocker, pop-up bloker, floating add blocker, and so many more...... Simple, easy, fast, and doesnt have any memory leaks.....

I leave my cookie and internet files alone (mainly cause i on dial-up) but it all boils down to being able to secure your PC.

To me, FF was slow, and just didnt have a good "feel" to it.

If I'm on Arfcom too long, some of the graphics get funky looking. I close Firefox and reopen it and it's good to go for awhile again.
Arfcom is the only site it does that, strange.

Which is completely unacceptable for a memory leak to be unpatched for this long...

Good to know, DL'ed it last night for my reformat/re-install this week.

Cav, Memory leak is when a program that continually runs keeps using up more and more memory instead of releasing it once it's not needed anymore..

I haven't noticed it with FF, but I usually don't have too many windows open at once and re-boot at least weekly.

The application reserves and uses "pages" of memory in the system for certain tasks. These pages are "tagged" as used and removed from access by the rest of the system. A memory leak is when the applicaiton finishes the tasks with those pages, it fails to release them. As a result, available memory goes down down down, performance starts to suck, and errors arise.

Its a problem and I'm also grumpy they haven't fixed that yet.

Right now my FireFox 1.5 is using 218,016k of memory. WTF? That is ridiculous. IE never uses even half that much. Any idea how long until they fix the memory leak problem?

That is the reason I stopped using FF.
