You are in the top 1% of the world's income bracket.

Some preacher told me that last Sunday.

OMFG...

I'm rich and i didn't even know it!

EDIT:  Probably because I screwed over all those po' folks on welfare.

By getting loans and paying for my own education, and then working hard to get a good job...

God I'm a slimy bastard...

Everything's relative. Do you have running water? Electricity? A phone? A car? Do you miss many meals?

In the US, our poor are well off by the standards of many countries.

Well, the average per capita income in Sierra Leone is somewhere around five hundred US dollars a year...

But I'd say it's closer to the top 10%, given Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany, U.K., etc.

I dunno. Depending on what stats you believe, the average income in China is anywhere from 400 bucks to 13,000 bucks. They make up ~20% of the world population. That's going to bring the average down pretty sharply.

If you also notice that poor in America are fat and elsewhere theya re skinny.
Here mst overweight folks are in the lower income brackets. I also jst noticed that there are no fat kids in the school I for for. Its a private school that costs aound $13k a semester. When I go the the public school system to get my kids. I see fat kids everywhere.

if you dont believe this then you havent been anywhere more exotic than the podunk county fair. its not that hard to believe if you consider the global population and that the most populous country in the world lives under a communist entitlement system. most of latin america raises a family for a year on what a middle class american brings home in a month. only in america does the poorest class of people have a cellphone, car's and HUD houses.

As far as I can tell from a quick search, the U.S. census says that you have to make over $150,000 to even be in the top 5%, so I call B.S.

www.census.gov/hhes/income/histinc/h01.html  ... assuming I read the table right.

The IRS has a LOT of data publicily available, and a brief look at that suggested that the top 1% breaks around $300,000 (but I dind't look at it closely, so that could be wrong).

Original post is about world's income bracket, not US

Kind of a BS statistic, because $47,500 will buy you a hell of a lot more in Bangladesh than in CA.

Just the same, I would rather be homeless is CA, than Middleclass in Africa.
