Got it made, yeah right.
 I work for local government so my base is way below the going rate though benefits are good, exposure to all types of disease, mandatory overtime, work holiday's and every other weekend, mandatory inservice training often seems to fall on my days off, am responsible for 20-40 other lives besides my own in an eight hour shift, abuse from pt. families, abuse from supervisors, any time blame has to be placed somewhere the buck usually stops at the nurse, I could go on but it would just piss me off.

Dont you mean how many Fockers are on this site?
 A lot of my friends are male nurses. Most of them work in the OR or ER, ICU settings. Or have become CRNAs. To a certain degree I have found that males nurses are easier to work with then some of the female nurses. Maybe its because I can say what I really think instead of trying to be PC. I cant tell you how many times you get nasty looks or they try to write you up for innocent remarks. |

I work 3 days per week and make 70K. I also have another job where I teach. That is another 30K. Life is good. Dealing with women at the first job sucks. Bob RN |

Best I've ever done as an LPN was base of $52000 with a two and a half day work week, but 16 hours in a day as a nurse is like sixteen hours in purgatory.

I'm not but they have my full respect. Nurses of any gender are the best people. (My wife is an RN ) A neighbor of mine is a (male)Nurse Anesthetist . He make beaucoup bucks.
Too bad they can't do something with the title though. That has to be tough. |

I've finished all my prerequisites for the RN programs in CA and should start as an EMT within a couple weeks. I definitely aspire to working as a Murse.
AMR pays $50-70/hr for murses working EMS. That's 100-140K working 10 days a month. I can't wait. |

No CRNA school close to here. That is the ticket! Starting pay is 150k in the Louisville area.
Teaching is my best job. It is fun and no stress what so ever. I get along and am respected by the women I work with. Here comes the "but", there are some real cunts out there. Men will settle up if pissed at you and probably have a good reason to be mad. The hormonally infested bitches that exist in our profession do not need a reason to haunt you and stir up shit for everyone. Thats my rant, just got off 3-12's and had enough of one particular bitch. Bob |

I'm considering going that route myself as a burned out IT guy. Thinking RN on the way to PA.
All in all, do you guys think it's worth it? I know the money/security's good, but I'm told the actual job is a bitch. I have a BA in history and could probably do an associate RN in a year or so. |

I was engaged to a girl who's an OR nurse, and her mom is a nurse in the baby ward at the same hospital. Man, the stories about marital infidelity in that profession..... Whew! That, and lesbians. Both of them get hit on regularly by both sexes.
Sounded like a lot of BS for the same that I make as a die maker, just fewer days-but more call time. Dave |

Tell me more. Is this common for that type of work? Do other companies do this? What makes a nurse so valuable over a paramedic that they make that kind of cash? I'd do this in a heartbeat. |

That kinda struck me as odd too. Around here you don't see nurses on ambulances (outside of the air side) as paramedics can do more without expressed doctor's orders. |

I'm just finishing up my RN degree and will graduate in May, (4 months and 3 days, not that I'm counting). So far, this is one of the best decisions that I've made in life as far as careers go. I will miss law enforcement, but after 10 years it's time for a change.
I've always had an interest in the medical field and got into law enforcement so that i would be in a position to help people. Now I get to do both and get paid twice as much as a cop, lol. |

When I worked for AMR in Massachusetts they hada few trucks that were staffed with CCRN's. Strictly transport and the RN was in addition to the paramedic and EMT-B driver. When I was there they were just starting this service so the were only about a half dozen of them at the time IIRC. They did get paid fairly well as I recall though. |
