"In America, you have a gun culture. You can't deny it. It's written into your Constitution. In Britain ... it's a very small subculture now," says John Bryan, the author of the King's College report and former head of the firearms intelligence unit at Scotland Yard.

And gun-related crime and the growing use of firearms as "fashion accessories" by young hooligans have many afraid that this country could be developing what they call an American-style gun culture.

Yeah, illegal use is really comparable to legal use and ownership.

"It's crystal clear that legally held firearms are not the problem and that the existing gun laws do not lead to crime reduction and a safer place to live," says David Bredin of the Countryside Alliance.

Wow, truth.  I bet this disturbed the hell of Ms. Icouldntrecognizethetruthifitbitmeintheass.

But a British advocacy group, The Gun Control Network, notes in its Web site that although Britain "does not have a particularly low rate of violent crime ... it does have a low rate of gun crime. This is because of our tight gun laws. ... It is clear to the vast majority of British citizens that any relaxation of gun controls or the routine arming of the police would lead to an increase in the use of guns in crime."

This what we here in the backward colonies like to call DENIAL.

"In America, you have a gun culture. You can't deny it. It's written into your Constitution. In Britain ... it's a very small subculture now," says John Bryan, the author of the King's College report and former head of the firearms intelligence unit at Scotland Yard.

Actually we celebrate our gun culture because it is one of tradition and competition, not like your subculture of crime.

Forty-two of the British murders were committed with handguns obtained illegally. Armed robberies, also with handguns, have increased dramatically.

Logic would dictate that after a while your gun murder rate will rise as well.  But then again, logic was never really a part of the gun control movement.

"This sudden rise (in crime and firearm violence) is not a fluke but a lethal convergence of factors," says Mike Franklin of the Community-Police Consultative Group for Lambeth.

Could the civilian populace having no right to self-defense be one of these converging factors?

Read the article and feel glad that we aren't like the socialist, government-dependent wretches who were once a proud, fierce people.

"Specially armed police units are being called out more often"..........DUHHH......By subculture, I assume he`s referring to the criminal element?....we should think there may also be a black market of honest citizens?......so it appears there is no "dent" in the estimate of 250,000 illegal weapons, as opposed to the 150,000 or so "legal" turnins?.......someone better wake up.......

Don't compare the US to Britain in gun laws, its like comparing apples and oranges or Gold (USA) to a big steaming pile of shit(Britain).
