I was a Battalion S4 in the run up to our deployment to the sandbox.  We purchased these cleaning kits and issued them prior to the deployment.

+1

Also our supply has them....just go in and get one.

Altho, the cleaning rods from the old kits are useful.....I do like the flexible cord that comes with OTIS.

We got the Otis kits, but I still prefer the older USGI kits.  Get a dental pick.

What make the Otis kit better?  Never had experience with it so I don't know.

I got them at my first unit in 2001 and my 2nd and 3rd unit although at the last two I had to order them.

1005-01-424-2999 M16A2/A4 kit class II
1005-01-526-7294 M4 kit

The rest are on the Otis website, so far we have done pretty well ordering them, for those I could nto get through the regular supply system I got pretty fast via DOD Emall. The .50 kit took longest.

Guys fight over Boresnakes however, and they are not in the system.

I was issued one in '03.  +1 on the Boresnakes, though...since they came out I've carried one in a ziploc bag.

They clean from breech to muzzle and do NOT FUBAR the crown of your barrel like steel rods do.

Know where a lot of the muzzle wear comes from on CMP M1s?

Cleaning with a steel rod and no bore guide.

NONE of my match rifles have had a steel rod in them. EVER.

I think you mean from breech to muzzle.
