I'm buying my boy a cap gun for his birthday.  I think a boy needs a pistol and holster.  I really really like this 12 shooter:

Isn't that sweet?  But 12 round caps aren't easy to find.  The ad says you can load it with an 8 rounder but that's a bit tricky for a little guy.

They also have this:

which comes with the ubberly cool sheriff's badge.

What do you think?

I don't like the orange caps either but its rare to find any with out them. His rifles all have them.

two six,er, 8 guns.

That way he can be a wild west chow yun fat.

Go with the two cap pistols. Caps are easier to find, the orange tips make him less likely to get shot by some dumbass cap who sees him playing in the yard, and he will worship you for life once he sees the Trigun cartoon.

definitely two guns.

if he's wounded in action, has limited use of his strong arm he can immediately draw down with the left.

he'll need speed loaders as well.

you're a fine mother Patty

Too bad they don't still make the Fanner 50s. I got a set for Christmas one year. My brothers and I spent days and days shooting each other. Finding the bullets could be a bitch though.

I go with the 2 eights. Way more fun to bang away double handed.

Thanks for the help guys.  I guess I'll buy the two.  You're right, too bad there's no speed loaders!  My little guy will be 7.

Patty

PS 3 picked Bareback Mountain?

Those two are pieces of crap. I bought one at the dollar store and the trigger barely turns the cylinder, and it gets stuck up pretty often.

No experience with the top one, but since it doesn't break open I'd say it probably holds together best.

Just find the 12 shot caps and stock up on them. I wish that I had gotten more caps when I was a kid, and if my future kids like cap guns I will make sure to keep them well supplied.

What about eight 2-shooters, four 4-shooters, or sixteen single-shots?

2 8 shooters are a start

Try to find a shoulder holster for them and get him a copy of Outlaw Josie Whales
Or True Grit

Start him of with one first,  and when he becomes a good gunslinger, get him the 2 gun setup.
The top one looks nicer IMHO!

Are you sure?  They said they were:

2 Die Cast Metal Cap Guns(antique bronze) 7.5 " long (with plastic grips ). Just the right size for that little sheriff
This is a true revolver that breaks like the real thing and the bullet chamber revolves. Shoots ring caps(ammo-8)
2 Black vinyl holsters(leather like tooling) with matching belt. Sheriff badge and bullet holder
includes orange safety plug.

Of course they're only $7.50 but I do want something nice.  I found a very nice set on Ebay but no holsters.  He's got to have a holster.

wow...

they're worth 7.50 if only for the badge

+1 he's gotta have holsters.  a gunslinger without holsters is like an ARFCOMMER that's seen Bareback Mountain

WTF! 5 of you?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure, I have the exact thing. A Colt Python look alike, made of bronze. It's pretty shoddily put together. It's a shame how hard it is to find good cap guns.

The best one I had as a kid and found a replacemetn for at the dollar store is this snub nosed plastic one made by "Ja-Ru" or something like that. The one I had as a kid kept going for years, and if you thumb the hammer back and let it go instead the shot is louder

Dang, I was hoping since it was casted in a metal they would be sturdier then the plastic junk sold.
