I tried with much frustration last night to burn a GNR CD that I have to make a copy for my car. All efforts were futile. I was able to get it to pop up a menu that said burn CD with real player, but I could not get the real player to do much for me.

I am running windows XP, and would really like to get this figured out.

You can copy a disc using Windows Media Player.

Could use a bit more  details of what the actual problem is. Ex error messages etc.

I would use a different burning program.  Nero is a standard and works with no problems.

Get Roxio or Nero - Windows Media Player and Realplayer won't copy music CD's anymore.

I can copy CD's all day long with WMP.  I don't do so very often as I like Nero a bit better.

Ok, well not being able to use real player or media player is a downer. Is this nero going to cost me money, or be a big hassle when I install it?

You need to quick format it before burning it, I stick mine in the microwave for 20 seconds and it works great.

If matches won't work you can try somthing like a Zippo.  They stay lit as long as you leave the lid open.  That way you can keep the flame in contact with the CD for a longer time without having to worry about burning your fingers on the match.

Another suggestion is to download a free/open-source CD-ripping program.
First use that to rip the music files to your computer as plain .wav files, and then any burning program should burn the files to a regular audio CD. This makes it two steps instead of just one-fully-automatic, but the plain .wav files aren't recognized as copy-protected.

OK, I decided to download the free trial of nero, and it seems to want a serial number before letting me install it. I cannot find this any where however. What gives?

I have installed Nero 5.0 on my computer now, and I have tried to copy about 5 CDs now. The only problem is that it starts the first track a little way into the actual song, and the rest of the album is off set like that. Any ideas on this one?
