I like this.  My "Ideal weight" is 225.
5'10" 26 year old male who weighs 290 right now.

Medical weight is 132 - 174 lb.

I have broad shoulders, and solid forearms nearly as thick as my girlfriends calfs.  And my medical weight is maxed at 174lbs?  Bullflopp!  I would look goofy as heck at 174.  Nice to have a realistic weight loss goal rather than an almost impossable Dr recomended generic BS answer.

I just did it.

I'm 6'6" 220 pounds and my "ideal" is 187 and my "medical" is 164-216.

I'm curretnly 5'11, 26, and 180. If I weighed 225 lbs, I'd look like a fat ass. As it is, I could stand to drop about 10 pounds. Damn love handles.

I wouldn't worry too much about reaching your ideal weight if I were you. Ideal weights always seem unreasonably low. I'm the same height as you, and when I weighed 175 pounds, I was just too skinny.

6'0", ideal 157, at 145 now, which is the low end of the ~140-170 medical scale.

Assumes typical lardass status.Almost all athletes are "obese" on the new gov. ht /weight charts.
Ignore.

Ideal weight based upon height alone is BS.  Look in a mirror.  Its pretty easy to tell if you are a lardass.

Well since it asks for current weight and age and gender.  I guess it's not BS.

WTF?

My medical range is 134-172.

BS!

I could maybe shed 20 pounds, and then I'd be 180.
And I'd be looking pretty lean,

135 is like meth addict territory.

I am 44yo

6'1" tall & currently weigh in around 235 lbs.

Mid life metabolism change has added approx 30lbs of 'chub' to my ideal 205 lb target weight.

Bullshit. Ideal weight for a guy is (dependant upon him having) between around 5 and 15 (give or take a few) percent body-fat. The rest is unimportant.

Yep.  Bodyfat percentage is the relevant measure.  But bodyfat percentage is relatively hard/expensive to measure, so the nanny state types created BMI, which tells you nothing.

I must be doing something right:

5' 11'  155 lbs, athletic build.

This thing says I should weigh 159.

ETA: I'm 26.

There are more expedience (cheaper) ways to measure BF%, like the pinch-test. A skin-fold caliper can be had for as little as $5 on Amazon.com, and the rest is just simple plugging the numbers into an equation (though most calipers come with a chart/instructions)

i think some of you guys aren't being honest with yourselves.

how's you gut? are you trim or do you have a muffin-top over the waistband of your jeans? sure, these tests don't really account for those who are unordinarily muscular for their height , but how many of us are ripped body-builders? i see a lot of fatty dinner posts here, and a lot of "hey, it's __day, what are you drinking tonight?" threads.

Actually that is pretty close to what I was thinking.  I'd like to be around 220 or so.

pinch tests aren't really that much more accurate.  People store fat in different areas.  The only real way to get a good idea is an immersion test.

Ideal weight charts/graphs/The whole BMI is a joke.  None of these really focus on Body Fat Percentage.  Weight is subjective, when you consider muscle mass.  When I was in the police academy, I lost about 7% body fat, but only lost about 4-6lbs of overall body weight in 3 months.  According to those other systems, I didn't make much progress at all.  BS, if you ask me.  Whenever I hear a nutritionist, or a doctor talk about the BMI, I turn my brain off because I know that they really don't understand things.

Besides.  If you look at this damned thing, it reports based on what ' other people of your Age, Height, Weight and Gender would describe as their ideal weight.'

It's on opinion.  If I enter my real weight, it says my ideal is 213. If I magically gain weight, but all other factors are the same, suddenly, my ideal becomes 251.

This site is a bullshitter.

Ehh.. the Ideal weight is kinda close.  A little higher than I thought it should be.

I'm 6'5" 240-250, 21 years old.  Ideal weight is 227 according to that.. I'd like to be 215-220.  I'm a pretty thick dude.  Even when I'm skinny, I look bigger than most others my size.

those weight charts must be based on high school aged kids? because I havent been within my ideal weight since my high school years

if you remember how much you weighed when you were 17, I bet you were at your ideal weight?

No.  According to that, you're where other people your age, height, and current weight think you should be.

Read the site.  The number it spits out for 'ideal' weight is based upon opinions by uneducated individuals.

That's not to say it necessarily is wrong, and doesn't line up with the way you and others think you should look.  But it also does not purport to use any real scientific evidence to arrive at its conclusions. It's based on what someone 'thinks' they should weigh.

ETA:  For instance.  275lb male, 5'8", 25 years old. Ideal weight: 213lbs.  213lb male, 5'8", 25 years old. Ideal weight: 182lbs. Now why isn't it spot on for the latter?  Because it's a cheap opinion generator.

ETA Further:  Apparently only 25 year old males that are 5'8" tall that weigh 152 pounds believe that their actual weight is their ideal weight.

Look at your Levis.

Is your waist bigger than your inseam?

If so you need to lose a few pounds.

Same/same? you're probably alright, you might be soft, but you're not fat.

Waist smaller than your inseam? you're light, that doesn't necessarily mean you're in shape, could be you need to hit the weights.

It really isn't any more complicated than that, for a guy.

Ideal weight for women = 118 pounds +(age - 23)/10 pounds
