I have the same problem, I use my laptop for traffic contol work and it is all I can do to see the screen during certain times of the day.

I even used the high contrast mode and the very large type and many times I have to hunt for the mouse.

Any ideas guys?

nothing you can do. Its the same issue with Plasma or LCD TV sets people are getting.  They do not have the contrast depth for offsetting the natural light freq as you do with a standard tube CRT.

I work on software that has to run outdoors, and if your screen wasn't designed to be sunlight readable,  your only option is to shield it.   We have a folding, waterproof 3 sided box, that comes with laptops that aren't sunlight readable.

You can brighten it usually by Fn+(Key with sun symbol) but unless you have a transflective screen, forget about being able to see it outdoors.

At the NASCAR races we put a TV on top of the motorhome.........we make a screen out of beer cartons

I dropped in here to see how a simple question can get seven replies, dang guys.

Hit the little blue marked button marked "FN" then with the other hand press the blue looking star things usually on the up and down keys.  This brighten or lower your screen like a TV set.

If you don't have the "FN" type button, go to the help screen and query.

Tj

You will have more fun using my suggestion.

If you "properly" dispose of the beer
