2 choices:

PRIVATE SALE
1999 Cadillac Deville, V8 4.6L
125,000 miles
Loaded and in perfect condition.
It belongs to my friend's friend's parents, who are WAY rich.
$5,000, Blue Book suggests $6,800

OR

FROM A DEALER
1999 Chrysler Concorde, V6 2.7L
65,000 miles
Very good condition
$5,500 Before all the paperwork. KBB suggests $7,300.
for an extra $550 I can get 3 year engine + drivetrain insurance.

What do you think?

Chrysler. Less miles and wear. I've heard of maintenance issues w/ Cadillacs.

I think I'd be leary of the Concorde. That vintage of Concorde/Intrepid has been known to have some substantial automatic transmission issues.

LOL, Ain't that the damn truth. That's why he's asking the question and most of us are setting here thinking thank God it ain't me making that call.

BTW, Just so you know. We have a 99 Concorde in the family with 145,000 miles no transmission problems.

Caddy, just be warned ahead of time on electrical problems and hope to hell you do not ever need a starter. The 2.7 is not an impressive engine by any means. I doubt that you will see much milage difference between the two, especially hwy driving.

I say the Cadillac-I have a '95 that still looks like new,despite living on a dirt road all these years. No problems-*none*-in all these years. We had our previous Cad., an '85, for 13 years before selling it, again, with no problems.

That's an understatment.

You punch that Concorde, it moves pretty good but you think the poor Gerbel is going to have heart attack. It really reminds me alot of the old GM 2.8L. Total underpower but fairly reliable engine.

Check out Consumer Reports at your local library for their reliability. Most of the big 3 USA-built passenger cars have a lot of black marks.

The littles sis' FIL had a Cadillac V4-6-8 that caught on fire(with real smoke and flames) on their way from L.A. to S.F. GM paid for their hotel bills for 2 nights.

The only thing worse than a high mileage GM, is a high mileage GM with complex, expensive electrical and mechanical systems. You are taking a huge risk that it will break the bank keeping it on the road.

I wouldn't buy either. Do yourself a HUGE favor and take a look at a consumer reports used car buying guide.

Those are both junk........ Front wheel drive pieces of fecal matter. Buy a good used pick-up. You can sell it in a day if you ever need quick cash and you can haul stuff.........

If you have access to the maintenance records it should help in making your choice. Chances are all of the maintenance work on the Caddy has been done by the dealer. The Concord? who knows. If the maintenance contract doesn't stop at 100k it might be the better deal.

IMHO it would be a better choice to go with the vehicle that you know the history behind and can document.

Got to go with the Horseman on this one; neither are good choices unless you are prepared for some hefty repair bills and being without your car while it's being worked on.

If you want a car you don't have to worry about (other than routine maintenance) get a Camry or Accord.

Caddy, no question. I've heard FAR too many Chrysler owners saying they regretted buying that damned piece of shit that darkens their driveway. If you own a Chrysler, make sure you have AAA
or something so you don't spend so much on your towing bill.
