This is the setup for hooking her venting her gas dryer to the outside. These vents are not air proof (blow lint and crap all over the place over time), so in my infinite wisdom

, I thought I'd caulk the joints.

Will this stuff work, or, will I burn Mom's house down with it?

iy you have a fire in your vent (most likely from lint) you will have bigger problems than your caulked joints me thinks.

+ 1 for using rigid aluminum instead of flex plastic venting

Use this stuff. It's good up to 700 degrees. I use it on all my furnace/boiler vents.

You shouldn't have to use anything in reality, if the pipe was installed right you should have no issues. I have a feeling they reversed the pipe direction on you. The pipe needs to face a certain way.

Check that first.

Firestop and firecaulk is normally meant to seal penetrations in fire rated walls, so that they keep their fire rating even though you put a bunch of holes in them.

As far as sealing up a dryer vent? Sure it will become mostly airtight once it seals... and if the house catches on fire, fire wont spread to the inside of your dryer at that spot for about an hour!

+1 fire caulk isn't designed for that application. You won't cause a fire with it.

Don't knock yourself out. Go to the home center and get a roll of metal duct tape. Apply and you are done. The one that says UL 181 is perfect but you can use the store brand. Have many installs this way and they are good. You can use a rag to make sure it conforms. Once in a while run a brush through the pipes to clean the lint. Better installs have a t-fitting somewhere to aide cleaning.

standered 4inch it looks like he wants to install a close clearance parascope conector but wants it air tight for dust control
