Fix the borders. I am saying fix and not close because fixing is what it needs. I would cold shut down everything for a few months until it all gets done. First would be sealing it. Then would be expanding the immigration process so that it is easier for educated, skilled people to emigrate here. The people of some  ountries have very hard times coming here even if they are fully credited and highly trained doctors- why? Because they tend to be better educated and aren't suited to being cheap dumb labor for big business to use. We need the good people. Almost every single legit immigrant will completely agree with this, especially ones from Mexico. They have to be tired of the illegals shitting up their gig and image by now. Then we deport all of the illegals to Mexico and tell them to stay out or.. well, killing them isn't a good solution, but RFID tagging sounds fun. First, though, there would be some huge punishments handed out from everyone who profited from illegals, down to 15 person businesses. The money from fines would be given to families, landowners, and individuals who suffered from crimes commited by illegal immigrants.

Now right there we'd just have grabbed the ship's wheel of the country and given it a good couple hard spins toward 'much better', especially since we would have just freed up tons of prison space and taken a huge bite out of crime while ensuring that legitimate immigration is increased even more, and legal immigrants already here are no longer looked at with suspicion that they might be some welfare sapping border hopper. But that's not all!

Regardless of the other drugs, filling prisons with people who smoked weed isn't smart. Taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for that shit, people who want pot illegal should have to. Decriminalization or not will be up to the states- states rights would be a large part of my administration. Someone selling crack to schoolkids, sure. Toss 'em in the pen. Someone toking up on their couch? If the pothead harmed someone, set them to work until they pay it off and then let them go.

Repeal of the '86 FOPA. That takes no explanation. The second part would go like so:

Me: Mr. ProGun Senator, what is the NFA tax on this Class III weapon I see that is valued at twenty thousand dollars?
Senator: Two hundred dollars.
Me: Excellent. Let's set that ratio in stone, one dollar per hundred dollars of sale price, and apply it to all NFA fees above 25 dollars. Make it so. Now, about these import restrictions...

Israel would be told to present a full and honest explanation of WHY THE HELL ARE THEY SELLING TECHNOLOGY WE GAVE THEM TO CHINA or face cuts in their funding. I would work to encourage an administration change in Israel from Secular to Religious, so they stop giving their damn land away. Religious Jews would be more honest and honorable, imho.

Social Security system gets the axe. Period. Everyone who has paid into it gets a compensation back to the same amount paid in. Because of all the money saved so far, it can be afforded. For the whiny socialist staters, there would be an opt in government retirement fund. And none of this ponzi scheme crap. You pay the money in, the money stays there until you want it back, while it earns money, and the gubmint's greedy little fingers are permenantly locked out of it.

There are issues with elected representatives, their salaries, lobbying, donations, pork barrel projects, and pensions for them that I would deal with. Electronic voting would be permenantly banned until a system is made that cannot be hacked by anyone from the entire population of slashdot or readership of 2600.

I'll add more later.

Thank God you'll never become president! The 1986 FOPA did WAAAAAAY more good than harm. You'd be giving people the ability to buy brand new domesticly produced machine guns, but turning them into felons the minute they crossed the state lines with a .22. Oh and that stuff about being able to buy a rifle in another state? Kiss that goodbye!

Now you have to take even more money from the treasury to pay for the background checks on people who want to buy machine guns and silencers. I smell a tax hike!

It's lonely at the top ain't it?

ETA - The President is not a dictator. He cannot do any of the things that you talked about without alot of serious help from congress, and that means compromise. No president gets 100% of what they want 100% of the time. Hell, Bush can't even do it and he has overwhelming Republican majorities in both houses of congress!

Well. What do we have here? A wise guy, eh?

I'd slash the NFA fees to next to nothing, and you'd call it a tax hike? And you jump to the conclusion that anything remotely positive in the 86 FOPA would get axed too.

Let me guess here- you either can never ever afford a Class 3 weapon so you don't want anyone else to get one, or else you have a bunch and don't want anyone below your wealth level to join in the fun. I smell .

Religion needs to stay out of any nations governmental operations. I see no good coming from any religion running the national affairs of any country. Look at how Islam has done such great wonders for so many Middle Eastern nations by being the central pillar of their government. You really want THAT example followed by other nations? I hope not.

Eveything is good except for that little snippet. Thats right up there with the .gov kicking down doors to look for weapons IMO.

We do not need chip implants for anyone. When our government starts this I will know we have reached the point where we no longer have liberty.

Plus you would piss off every devout Christian in the nation(incuding me). Most believe RFID chips are the predicessor of the mark of the beast.

ETA repeal the FOPA. Are you smoking crack!?

Yeah the 86 ban was bad bad, if thats what you meant. But the original FOPA is a great peace of legislation and a big step for gun owners.

You want religion dealt with? I'll give you that and then some. I would be the president who the term 'war on scientology' is associated with.

Probably would handle that with playing the southpark episode on Scientology on national television twice a day for a week and then revoking their religious status and demanding their taxes.

"I Wish I Was The President"

It's the end of the month I gotta pay the rent
I wish I was the President
It's the end of the month and all my money i spent
I wish I was the President

I'd have a big white house with a yard and a fence
So I could keep all the terrorists out
I'd be the king of the world I would lie and deny
And get high with little honor roll girls

I wish I was the President
It's the end of the month and what a year so far
I wish I was the President
Every end of the month I'd buy a brand new car

And drive it straight to the strip bar
Where I'd be drinkin for free
And have a bunch of naked bitches yellin fuck the poilce with me
Snortin shit up my nose
With the flag in my hand here my national anthem goes

I'd make every day a holiday
I wish I was the President
A mandatory raise for the underpaid
I wish I was the President

It's the end of the month another one down the drain
I'd have a boat and a maid and my own jet plane
And I would still complain
I'd do whatever I please
And take a trip around the world dropping bombs on our enemies
I'd smoke the dopest cigars drive a muscle car
And fuck 11 differnt porno stars
I'd live a hell of a life I would never pay taxes
And I'd barely have to see my wife

I'd make every day a holiday
I wish I was the President
A mandatory raise for the underpaid
I wish I was the President

Stop your whining cause your bitchin naggings killing me
Stop your crying cause your driving me crazy
Goddammit do you have to complain
Don't you think I'm tired of the same ole same ole thing

I wish I was the President

How are you going to fund the background checks associated with acquiring the tax stamp? Right now that is partially funded with the $200 fee mandated by the NFA. How are you going to fund the background checks with a decrease in revenue for the program, while funding your deportation program, your crackdown on small business owners and wealth redistribution program, your new border security program and your RFID border detection system unless you raise taxes?

And you jump to the conclusion that anything remotely positive in the 86 FOPA would get axed too.

Your exact words were that you would axe the 1986 FOPA. There was no discrimination between the rest of the 1986 FOPA and the machine gun ban amendment to the 1986 FOPA. Most people who deride the 1986 FOPA completely ignore the benefits that it contained for gun owners. You gave no indication that you were any different.

Religion is a private matter, and a secular government that caters to one brand or flavor of religion excludes everyone else in the nation who doesn't practice that version of religion, or no religion at all. Religion  should remain in the home or place of worship where it belongs. My political leaders should not be sanctioning any form of religion. It is not governments job to do so. It is governments job to run the country or one of its political subdivisions.

How much does a background check cost?

Whatever we pay the fucking peons carrying it out, which is probably well under 200 bucks.

Does it even get used with each transfer request? Don't even get me started on how the BATFE would get shaken up. Anyway, thanks for being the ubitiquous critic.

The religious roots and beliefs of the FFs directly guided and gave rise to their ideas of liberty and freedom upon which our nation was founded. Without such religious guidance that they so frequently, heavily and publically acknowledged in official gov't acts and pronouncements, our nation would never have been born. In short - atheists could never have founded such a nation as ours.

I would aknowledge and give respect to the religions of the founding fathers, which ranged from atheism to deism. I believe men of honor and character can go far with a good religion behind them, but I draw the line at using a religion for books of laws.

I mean, hey, let's ban shellfish and clothing made from two kinds of fiber.

And that was 225 years ago, in a nation that up to that point had often discouraged any sort of deviation from a specific accepted religion for a particular colony. Religion has no place in the governing of a modern secular nation that has a multitude of religions being practiced in its borders. No one is saying that individual Americans can't have personal beliefs that they draw from a religious background. They should not be basing public decisions on that religious choice, however.

No, I'm pointing out that it's not as simple as you're making it sound.

I'd love to be able to buy an M16 for the same price as an AR15, and I think that the 1986 MG ban is a travesty. But you obviously haven't given this a whole lot of thought other than "I want to do this, this and that".

Besides, how do expect to make it through a presidential campaign if you can't take a little bit of crap off of one guy on the internet?

And I haven't even started asking about your military record, love life, criminal arrest history, drug history or what you did in college.

I just don't get what's wrong with me listing up some things off the top of my head for discussion and just as ideas for what I would do, and some people having to assume that just because I named X, x, and x that therefore all these other things must be happening.

Like that fixing the FOPA means that the good things it did would just be thrown to the road.

We have had discussion after discussion after discussion regarding the 1986 FOPA. There is a contingent here who every so often busts out with statements like "Ronald Reagan betrayed gun owners by signing the 1986 FOPA" and all manner of blasphemy. These people completely ignore the fact that the 1986 FOPA protected gun owners who were being prosecuted for traveling with firearms. It also clarified the rules on the purchasing firearms across state lines and as a result residents of one state can purchase a long gun is other states without fear of prosecution. The 1986 FOPA has critical benefits for gun owners that can't be ignored, and it has been the subject of alot of intense debate on this board.

Besides, if you're going to make statements like "This is what I would do if I were president" then you should be prepared to provide your plans in detail and be ready for a couple of challenges.

If I was president and had like minded individuals who held the majority in both houses, the NFA of 34' and all gun control after that date would cease to exist.   Drugs would be treated like sex, perfectly legal to own and use, but very illegal to sell.  Drug sellers would be treated along with murderers, sex offenders, 3rd strike criminals, and criminals with a sentence greater than 25 years...all would get death, with no more than 365 days to appeal for their life before the $0.10 of lead and copper separate their brain stem from their spine.  Children would be encouraged to pray in school, regardless of what the godless heathen sitting next to them thinks.  If they want eternal damnation, they can keep to themselves, quit trying to take the bible from my kids' hands.  Imported goods would be drastically cut down to only raw materials, all support would be withdrawn from arab nations and embargos emplaced on any nation that does not conform to our Bill of Rights.  The federal govt would se a drastic downsizing, with the military growing in size; most civilian military contractors would lose their contracts and jobs restored to the soldiers.  Borders would be sealed, with "no mans land" monitored 24 hours a day on both fronts, all unauthorized tresspassers in the "no mans land" would be shot on sight, and body left where it lay.  I would accomplish all of this the day I swear the oath.

That's a good start, but you forgot some (maybe for your second term);

1. Welfare and food stamps - This program is done. You can work and support yourself, just like everyone else. There are plenty of jobs out there (especially since we closed the border to illegals).

2. Foreign aid - gone. How did this become our problem in the first place? What do we gain from it? Let them produce something and enter into free trade if that is what they wish.

3. Puerto Rico and other US territories - They get the same deal as everyone else. They don't get to collect US dollars, but not pay tax. However, since they are taxpayers, they will get representation in congress.

4. Washington DC - They also pay tax, so they get representatives like everyone else.

5. Flat tax (not a flat rate, but a flat amount) - You live here, you use the same roads, public places, etc - you get a bill every year. Children become adults at age 18 and they get billed like everyone else. Additionally, if you have children in school, you pay for the school. If you do not have kids, you shouldn't be paying for someone else's.

6. Import/Exports - This gets fixed. No more allowing unlimited imports from other countries that limit the amount of good that we can export to them. We also raise tariffs on imported goods to subsidize the lost wages of American workers.

7. Immigration - Borders get closed to all terrorist countries. At this time it means Islamics. Until they can police their own and eradicate the problem, they don't get to come here any more.

8. Profiling & Stereotyping - Is allowed. If you look like a criminal, or a terrorist, or anything else - the police get to stop you, question you, and search you. If you turn out to not be a criminal, they let you go. This makes everyone safe. Why is everybody up in arms about this anyway?

(Example: You're swimming in the ocean when you see a shark. Do you;

A. Judge the shark by the stereotype that sharks attack and kill people, and get out of the water immediately.

B. Be politically correct and judge the shark as an individual - perhaps he is one of the few that does not fit the stereotype that sharks attack and will not attack and kill you - stay in the water and not be don't be a sharkaphobe.

Which one of these makes more sense? Which one will ensure the safety of your life? Will you force your children to swim and play with sharks, because it is wrong to judge all sharks based on the facts that many sharks attack and kill people?)

Dream on. Most of this country is on autopilot. The top guy is actually very powerless on many things. 75% of the budget is entitlements and prepromised spending.  Nice dream, but no matter who gets in, not much will change. The number of people you have to get to agree to anything is astronomical, by design.

If you were President----or, in a more likely scenario, if a maverick independent with your views were elected---he would do exactly NOTHING because the Washington beaurocracy and Congress wouldn't allow him to do anything.
