No locations were found within 250.00mi. Please expand your search or modify your search criteria.

It is NOT! A national chain. NOT everyone has one around the corner. NOT everyone even knows what the heck you are talking about. It took several times of seeing it mentioned before I asked, and was told what Academy is.

So please stop telling me and others that I should just go to Academy to get my ammo.

I'm not griping about people posting about great sales there. I'm sure that that is helpful to many people. But when someone talks about a gun, or ammo, or some other thing, and you quote them and tell them they are a moron because they could have paid $10 less at Academy, please take a second to pull your head out of your ass and realize that not everyone has this wonderful mecca of great fricking wonderfulness!!!!!!!!

Academy is great. I have one in between my house and office. It's about a 3 mile run from either place. Cities/States that don't have Academy should be BANNED!

They were gonna put one about 20 miles from the house - and now - not so much

I'm assuming it has something to do with the hurricane but still I need ammo :)

I got two within 25miles of me, I buy 9mm ammo for $3.86/box, and I don't even own one yet, figure when I get enough of it laying around it'll be an incentive for me to buy a lorcin or jennings.

Yes as a matter of fact. About 15 minutes away from me is one, in Oak Brook, IL.

Illinois has:

One thing I have to say about Academy is that any sporting goods or ammo I will buy from them than from Walmart. After the hurricane Academy was selling guns and ammo. The Walmart by my house still will not sell guns. The sad part is that Walmart is the only game in town. I have to travel 30 plus miles to go to Academy but for now on I will.

That is incredible! It is a wonder that they have not had some sort of discrimination thing against them because they refused to hire a young woman with contempt for firearms and like people who spit on the floor.

Academy, the only chain that trust people and lets the customers pick up the ammo and not have to ask for it behind a counter (except for pistol).

Yep. I was not used to a store stocking so MUCH ammo either. First time I went in there years ago.... I wanted to pick 3k of 9mm. I asked the old guy behind the counter if it was $3.86 a box, he said "yep.... how many you want?"

Feeling cocky, I said "Oh, I will take everything you got, I shoot a lot." and smiled. He grinned, and said "hope you brought a big truck"

He pointed under the counter where there were 10 cases of 9mm sitting there, and with my jaw open, he said.... "you want me to go get the rest from the back too?"

I sheepishly told him I would take 3 cases.... thanks.

And they sell Bushmaster AR15's too! They always have three in stock at mine. A M4-A2, a camo flat-top, and a Carbon 15.

Thanks Tango. Oak Brook is still the closest one to me.

Gander Mtn is in Elgin, Joliet, Geneva, and Rockford.

Bass Pro is in Gurnee...but they're supposed to put one in Bolingbrook according to their site.

Dick's I haven't seen anywhere except Orland Park and Schaumburg...there could be more, since wherever a Galyans was, a Dick's is...

Figures that I'd be the only one to get a comment at Academy.

I went there a couple of months ago (during the last tax free weekend as a matter of fact) to pick up a 250 pack of UMC .45 ACP. The guy behind the counter says "that's alot of bullets"

I told him I did alot of shooting.

Last year the guy at Spring Creek told me that store alone, sold over 400,000 rounds of CCI/Blazer/9mm in 2004. I was responsible for about 2.5% of it.

btw-none of the girls at the registers have ever made any comments about the amount of ammo i buy....they recognize me and know me by name
