Does anyone know of any legal ramifications if I mounted my 1919a4 and tripod on the bow of my boat and went shooting off the Chicago lake front on Lake Michigan ?

Does it follow Maritime law or does Crook County have jurisdiction. Is there a shoreline buffer zone?

I don't know, but I CAN tell you that it is illegal to have a firearm on your boat on Lake Erie.

I don't know if a CCW changes that or not.

Bullsh!t.  I have been duck hunting on Lake Erie.  We had probably 8 guns on that boat (32 foot cruiser used as a tender) and we were using two layout rigs.

Duckhunting from a "watercraft which has ceased forward motion and has the propulsion system completely shut off" is an exception.

You need to watch where you are shooting.  I have heard of a case where the bullet skipped on the water and hit a girl driving a car.  If the angle is flat enough the bullet may keep going.  So you have to make sure there is no one down range.

But when you are on the Great Lakes, you are not "in" Michigan.

I am sure there is a maritime law against it. But I would think it's a Maritime law and not a State law. I don't know, but that's what common sense would tell me.

VERY large portions of the great lakes are Michigan State Waters, and the laws of Michigan apply.

Don't do anything dumb, like go a mile offshore in Saginaw Bay and start blasting.

Edited to say that I think that ALL official state documents where the borders of the state are shown should include the boundaries shown above.

I think this brings up another intersting question.
