I'm using the Brugger and Thomet lo-profile mount, some medium-height rings, I have pulled off the rear sight as it is useless anyway, and have fitted a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 tactical scope with target knobs. I have gotten it to shoot about 2.5 inches on a wobbly bench with milsurp South African (I shot Aussie out of it and got it closer to 2 inches with iron sights!). I have seen a couple of 1 minute groups using mil-surp. I may be taking the rifle to a 400 yard range tomorrow with handloads to see if I can improve on matters, although I suspect the wind to be a PITA on this deal. Over 600 rounds and not one FTF or FTE. Dam,ned reliable gun, and more accurate than my Springfield M1A was. |

Get that PTR-91 and shoot the crap out of it.
Ammo is cheap,parts are cheap,and the mags are at the cheapest they've ever been. Mines somewhere around 1,200 rounds. If I try ,with port surplus and a scope I get 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. These rifles are a bargain at these prices. All of my other rifles are in the safe. I look forward to spending my days off at the range with my PTR. Oh ,and +1 for the B&T mount ,except I use higher rings so I don't have to remove the rear sight. Eventually I want one of the new Eotechs on it instead of the scope. Do you want a safe queen M1A that your scared to mark up ,or a PTR-91 you can abuse that will work every time ? |

M14, itll never fail to work and theres no silly adjustable gas system to worry about. Clean your piston (and your rifle for that matter) every 1000-2000 rounds or so and youll be fine. Best sights of any rifle on the market, and its AMERICAN.

I was not that impressed with the PTR, although my first one was one of the early lemons. I guess it depends on what you want it for, from a budget blaster standpoint I'd get the ptr; personally i think the AR10 is a better rifle.

+1 M1A is proven and solid. My AR-10 takes a crap once in a while. I've got 1000+ through it. |

Thank you all for your opnions , I think that I am going to go with the PTR-91 I just dont know what model If I can get 1.5 in accuracy or better I will go with one o fthe longer guns and set it up with a magnified optic if I cant I will go with one of the shorter ones put an EO-Things or AImpoint on it.

I was doing the same thing and decided in an M1A. The reason being is that I already have a AR for goofing around and if I was going to get a 308 then I wanted one that was accurate beyond the range of an AR. I'll eventually get a PTR for a fun blaster but for a serious battle rifle I think the M1A or M14 beats it hands down.
