I was at my GF's yesterday and tried this "Monster" energy drink that was there.

I didn't get the sugar high I was expecting.  Maybe I should have bought some Red Bull then?

It tasted interesting, like apple flavored Mountain Dew, if there ever was such a thing.

Does anyone hear drink energy drinks?

I buy and drink alot of energy drinks.  The best buzz is the monster low carb in the blue can.  That drink really works wonders.  They got this one energy drink thats double size for 99 cents, it has the pledge of allegiance on it.

You have a girlfriend ?

The "high" isn't coming from the sugar,it's the ginseng and caffiene.

[hijack] Time for my warning about Red Bull and other caffeine drinks.

Each can of Red Bull has the equivalent of 4 pots of coffee.  In excess they can cause serious heart trouble.  My husband is a prime example of someone who drank red bulls and had the joy of spending the summer in the hospital highlighted by open heart surgery.

All things in moderation. [/hijack]

I've been drinking this energy drink overseas that tastes similar to Red Bull, has the same stuff in it plus one more ingredient: nicotinamide.  Anybody familiar with this ingredient?  The drink is called Power Gold.  It's made in Singapore for some Japanese company, and it runs about .50 per can instead of the $1.65 for Red Bull.

Actually, Redbull has 80mg. A cup of drip coffee will have 115-175mgs.  So its like having a weak cup of coffee.  What the NHL players do is take a handfull of Sudafed.  The jolt from the pesudoephendrine is like a 100 cups of coffee and will wire you.  A lot of the heart problems that hockey players have makes me wonder if these two things are related.

Sorry to counteract your hijack Patty.

probly just really high levels of caffiene tolerence.

Caffiene is an interesting substance.  It does make you physically and mentally more alert.  The problem is too much and it will counteract any beneficial effects.

Also its a diuretic so it will make you piss like a race horse.

I prefer "Full Throttle" or "Amp"... Red Bull is decent too. I get weird looks at the gym because I mix it with gatorade.

That's fine.  In the words of Harry S Truman "God Damn an eye witness, always screws up a good story!"  this info was what my husband's heart surgeon told him and I took him for face value.  The number of pots could change dramatically depending on how tired I am.  I think he said it was 4 pots.  Anyway, IT can be very dangerous.  My husband isn't the first to have problems with it and he won't be the last.  All things in moderation is a good recommendation that even a cat doctor can agree.

A big +1 for me. I can drink a soda with caffieine on an empty stomach, and I'm pissing every 20-40 minutes. I had to go to the bathroom 3 times at the theater yesterday because I hadn't eaten anything beforehand. I've been making it a habit to cut down on caffieine for the most part.

ETA: I like regular Red Bull when I really do need something to pick me up.
