I guess I give him credit for having the courage to get in front of the cameras and carry on the tradition.

I met him a couple of years ago in Las Vegas. He was there because he produced the ACM Awards. Say what you want about the old guy, he was the nicest, most polite guy you would want to meet. 100% class.
That is all.

It was kind of sad. His speech was slurred and couldn't pronounce some words properly even though he had his wits about him.

I agree that it was kind of sad.  It really drives home your age.  He's been doing New Year's for forever and a day.

The guy does have a huge brass pair , though.  Tough guy.

Boy, that ain't no lie.

I saw him on TV one day and he still looked like a kid and about a week later, he looked about 87 years old.

It all caught up with him at once.

Is there anyone more responsible for the mainstream acceptance of rock and roll music?

I cannot think of anyone else.

God bless Dick Clark.

Could you be any more insulting?

He could still have his normal intelligence hidden behind his speech difficulty.  After my wife's stroke, she speak a single word (or even my name) but she still had every single bit of her intelligence.  She scored well on a verbal IQ test.  She couldn't read a single word on the page, but when it was read to her, she could nod when you read the correct answer from the choices.  From what I heard about his condition just after it happened, he's doing pretty well now.z

Well, lets see how well some of the 20-something posters here do when they're pushing 80 and survived a stroke!!!

Regardless of how tough you are now - you will get old, we all do - it's a fact of life.  Don't be so hard on the guy.

Dude, alot of us grew up watching him on American Bandstand, back when you were just a lump in your dad's nut sack.
The only problem I noticed is his speech. His mind is still sharp, and I feel sorry for him trying to put the speech with his train of thought.
All I can say is he has steel balls for getting up in front of the world and doing the show!
God Bless him.

You are wasting your breath.  Some of these guys would give a spastic kid an icecream cone just so they could watch him plant it in his forehead so they could laugh.

Square as Dick Clark was he dared to bridge the generation gap over the decades taking Rock from the Devils music to the most dominant music in the US.  This man made a difference in his life which is far better than most of us spending our lives on the internet.

I sure as hell would.

My daughter was on a couple of game shows that he hosted and had the chance to have lunch with him a few times as a result. She reported that he was as nice a guy as she had ever met.
