Would love to know peoples opinions regarding the best state to live in based on:

-Gun rights and useability (conceiled carry, NFA weapons, 1000+ yard ranges, etc...)
-Freedom in general (few restrictions and few licences required to enjoy life)
-Resonably weather conditions (few or no natural disasters, no temperature extremes)
-Jobs (technology sector)
-Low taxes
-Reasonable cost of living

NH  Everything else is perfect.  I like ice-fishing so for me the weather is a plus.

Colorado's not bad.  CCW in your car without a permit all you want.  No silly NFA restrictions.  Shall-issue CCW plus we can open carry in non-socialist cities.  No registration or restrictions on private party sales.

-Freedom in general (few restrictions and few licences required to enjoy life)

Not bad yet, but the Californicators in Denver and Boulder are working on it.

-Resonably weather conditions (few or no natural disasters, no temperature extremes)

Fairly mild, though unpredictable.  6 inches of snow in the morning and shorts and t-shirts at lunchtime.

-Jobs (technology sector)
-Low taxes

Got it.

-Reasonable cost of living

Getting bad here, though you can still find good deals.  Back when I moved here I was astonished to find a starter home on 1/4 acre at $200k, but then again I was 24 years old making $75,000 a year.  It's all relative.

Nevada, Zero income tax, low sales tax, low property tax.
Open carry even in liberal las vegas. No nfa restrictions. Right to carry
Wonderful weather
Great job market.
Cost of living is some what up, but so are paying jobs.

Maine has the extremes and the high taxes.  Jobs are hit or miss depending on where you live and what you do.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that it kinda sucks here.

From Dalhart to Del Rio and out El Paso way, well I'll be doin' fine on Houston time, and when the sun sets on the Copano Bay, well from way up where the Red River flows, on down to the Rio Grande, I was born a native Texican, and I'm proud to say that I am.

I like Texas, well ain't it fine here
I like to pick my guitar down at ole Luckenbach, and drink that shiner bock beer
Yeah I like Texas, man there ain't no doubt
Just listen to me, cause I know what I'm talkin' about

Well there's old dancehalls and little cafe's, where you can get a taste of the Lone Star State, strap on your boots and have yourself a laugh or two, well there's no line dancin' just straight romancin', that hill country love is what I fancy, where streams run clear and Lord the skies they are so blue.

It's a two day old burrito on a lukewarm beer to go, on the Sunday side of a road trip weekend, and Lordy I was feelin' so low, when somebody flipped on the jukebox, and I heard old Bob Wills say, "won't cha' stay all night stay a little longer", so I held on another day.

I spent several nights in Del Rio when I was working for Nortel and we were installing OC192 sites out in the desert.  That was about 1999.

I offer Ohio:

* Shall-issue CCW, though the car carry part needs a little work (it's not bad, but other states have it better).
* No NFA restrictions other than federal.
* Plenty of places to shoot, home of Bulletfest.
* As with many states, freedom is legal povided you don't live in metro areas.
* Weather is nice, provided you don't live near Cleveland. Summers here in NW Ohio are a reasonable 80-90 deg, winter means a few inches of snow every now and then, and temperatures in the teens. Tornadoes occur semi-frequently, but it's NOTHING like living in tornado alley. Looking at topos and 100 yr flood plain data is sound advice before buying a home.
* If you couldn't guess, I have a tech job. Anyone who can't find work in the tech sector in this state is either not looking hard enough, or is unskilled. I make more here than I did in California.
* Taxes? Not bad, but you have to be REALLY careful about where you live. Property taxes vary widely throughout the state. Taxes range from practically non-existant to insane. Homework is the key, here.
* Reasonable cost of living? Hell yes! Again, stay out of metro areas. How does this grab you?
-6000 sq ft Victorian on an acre, $180,000.
- 2500 sq ft ranch. 60x40 Shop has heated floors, oil change pit. Walk out basement, ~10 years old, lots of custom touches, sits on an acre, etc. $150,000.
- Electricity is so cheap, that I heat my house with two electric radiators. $200/mo keeps my house at 75 deg in the winter. Summer electric bill is usually at $75 or so. I keep the place cold.
- Full coverage on two cars (2000 Dodge Neon, 05 Mustang GT) costs me $120/mo.
- Registering my cars cost me maybe $40 each.

Ohio can't be beat - if you stay out of metro areas. Laws and regulation is typically handled at a local level - very little is applied unilaterally across the state. Cities are mired in regulation, rural areas are free as can be. I shoot off my back porch here in Fulton county. 30 miles east in Lucas county, I'd get arrested for doing the same (and rightfully so, it's crowded). It all depends where you live.

B.  I could make a living there.

Was in WY for 4 years during my enlistment.  Was a nice state, cept don't ever go to Cheyenne to see what the state is really like.  Cheyenne is a flat, barren, boring town that has no pretty women, is nothing but bars, no work can be found, and is expensive for what it is.  Would I ever go back there....HELL NO!  Would I go to Laramie, or Jackson Hole if I could.......HELL YEA!!
