How the hell can someone go through college and not know how to add??

I am sick and fuckin' tired of goddamn college boy achitects!! On the "blueprints" they draw six  10' offices. But the damn building is only 55' feet long. That's just one example. Everyday there is stupid shit like that.

9' ceilings... but the top of the windows is 10'
A 3'X3' closet...but they want a 50 gal. water heater, a suction pump and an air compressor(for a dentist's office) in it.

I could go on for days with this shit.

How the hell can you go to school to learn how to draw pictures (which most kids learn to do in kidnergarten) and still fuck it up??

Since stupid laws get passed all the time , I got a new one.
If you haven't spent at least two years in the field, you would be guilty of a felony if you "drew pictures".

Sorry for the rant, but people "rant" about all kinds of crazy shit on this site , so i figured it was my turn.

There are three types of people in this world...
Those who can count, and those who cannot.

I am convinced the world is getting dumber.

Just look at ARFCOM over the last five years.

If they Hung some of these people for being an Architect, they would be killing an innocent man.

I am going through the same stuff.  We are engineering a huge retail center and the Architect can't add anything with out the computer.  We don't draw our columns to scale, i.e. all are shown on plan as a TS8X8 but the call-out will be TS10X10.  The Arch. calls us up and is indignant that the columns are so small and could not be convinced that they were correct.  He had turned off our text and call-outs and was scaling our members on the plan.  Morons.  The Architects that are coming out of schools today are totally dependent on Architectural Desktop or some other program and have no clue what they are doing.  It is starting to be more and more trouble; we have upped our fees because of the hassle with some clients.

Working at a car dealer in the 'hood is fun.  I've heard people get irate because we come back to them with a high payment, and they want to be under $300 a month... on a brand new car... when they're $10k upside-down in their trade... and their credit sucks so bad that we can't get them approved unless it's at 20% interest.

There have been times where we've had sales managers sit down with them and explain very clearly that their negative equity alone will cost them more than their desired payment, just using simple division, and they still think we're running a shell game on them.

Maybe they just don't understand the difference between 1' and 1"?

DAVID: I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was

down. I think that the problem may have been...that there was a

Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being

crushed by a dwarf. Alright? That tended to understate

the hugeness of the object.

IAN: I really think you're just making a much too big thing out of it.

DEREK: Making a big thing out of it would've been a good idea.

IAN: NIGEL gave me a drawing that said eighteen inches. Alright?

DAVID: I know he did, and that's what I'm talking about.

IAN: Now, whether he knows the difference between feet and inches is not

my problem. I do what I'm told.

DAVID: But you're not as confused as him are you? I mean it's not your

job to be as confused as NIGEL is.

IAN: It's my job to do what I'm asked to do by the creative element of

this band. And that's what I did. C'mon...

School only gives them the tools, but doesn't give them the experience. If they are smart, they will learn when you go to explain the way things really work.

...and another thing.
I always love that they have on the plans.... "All dimensions need to be feild verified."
Basicly saying, "We're stupid. Please catch our fuck-ups."

One day I was ranting -n- raving about dumbass college boy architects not knowing their ass from a hole in the ground.  "I'd love to kick the dumbass's ass that drew this shit", etc.

Then, my project manager calls to me from across the room (with a big smile on his face) "Have you met "Dumbass Arch. " standing right next to him.
For some reason D. A. was fascinated with his own feet.
