Advise on Springfield Micro Compact

Looking at purchasing a new compact pistol and the Springfield Micro Compact caught my eye. Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this gun. Feedback is much appreciated.

I currently have a full size Kimer. Want to add a compact and micro to the collection. Why no love for the micro???

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry. Jambomatic until I got a new mag. It only jamms about 1 out of 50 with the new mag. Then I got another mag, and I have not had a failure with it yet(about 100 rounds).

I love the look, fit and feel, but If it jams at all with the new mag, I am selling it. This is suppost to be my carry gun. I can't have jams in a carry gun.

On a side note though, my roomate has a Kimber ultra carry, and his does not jam at all.

I just picked this baby up and I love it. So far I have put about 300 rounds through it without a failure. Several different types/manufacturers of ammo. A bit larger than the micro .

It's an Ultra Compact

So does the gun jam because of design or the weak wrist of the shooter?

The Ultra Carry is another option that I'm looking at.

I've had my Ultra Carry for a couple of years, no problems. I trust it for my daily carry.

i have an ultra compact and love it.

that said SA compact 1911's have been VERY hit or miss. i have heard and seen horror stories with other compacts identical to mine. frankly it's not much harder to conceal a full size gun than the compacts, especially with an IWB holster.

Recoil is STOUT and it took a fair amount of practice with it to be a competant shot with this gun. it shoots nothing like a full size 1911.

Do your part and the gun will likely do it's part. Use Chip McCormick Shooting Star or Power Mags (Wilson mags are good too). And DO NOT limp wrist the gun. You can limp wrist your full-size 1911's all day long, but if you do it to your micro you will jam. I currently have both full-size and officer's sized Charles Daly 1911's. Have had them for 3 or 4 years and fired about 1,000 rounds through each. One thing I've noticed is that if I find that I am having a jam now or then on the officer's model (full-size NEVER jams), then I consciously stiffen the wrist and no more jammo. It's really that simple. I have replaced recoil springs in the officer's once though. The small 1911 models are MUCH more sensitive to ammo selection, mags, and recoil springs. Also, the Mec-Gar mags that come with a lot of these guns are junk. When you replace them with good mags it makes all the difference in the world.

I think the Beer Slayer got it right. Either you get 1 that works, or 1 that needs the factory to make right, or a jam o matic. Check out some other gun forums on these Micros. I went with a commander size because of the hit or miss reliability folks seem to be having.

Ya most of the high end 1911's manufactures stopped making 1911's less then 5" because of the "hit and miss" luck that seems to hang around these smaller 1911's.

I wouldn't really trust .45 ACP (an already slow round) to be very lethal out of a 3 inch barrel. I doubt any HP's would expand out of that small of a barrel either.

Doesn't need to expand much when it's already BIG. I do admit to liking the 9mm and not having the disdain for it that some have. But I'd trust my life to .45 over the 9mm any day. The US military did that for almost 100 years and I don't recall ever hearing that anyone felt the .45 wasn't lethal enough. I think it was more about NATO standard calibers and such.

ETA: And I know that velocity loss is a concern with rifles, but c'mon... what's the friggin' difference between 3" and 5" at typical pistol defense ranges? The slower the better with pistol rounds and in crowded spaces.

Have you ever fired .45 HP out of a 3" barrel and recovered the bullet?

I didn't think so.

45acp rounds are typically not supersonic and are designed to expand at lower velocities. I recall reading somewhere that the 45 is also fairly efficient at burning it's powder in a smaller area than some other rounds. ie.. more efficient out of shorter barrells.

I have a plain jane micro...about 1000 rounds down the barrel. So far not even a hiccup...I use it with a small clip holster. It's with me always...real slim but a tad heavy. Although the fron sights aren't the best.
