It was bound to happen eventually. Just glad I was able to witness it[snicker snicker]

Kitty has been lounging around in front of the wood stove all day long today. I'm laying on the couch watching Alton Brown make gyros on the food network. I notice kitty staring intently at the top of the wood stove. I hiss at her trying to scare her away. Doesn't work. I tell her it is hot. Doesn't work. I start to stand up to shoo her away when she does it. Jumps right onto the top of the HOT wood stove. She stands there for about half a second. I'm thinking it has cooled down enough that it isn't hurting her. Then all hell breaks loose. Kitty jumps straight up and hits her head on the bricks over the stove(stove is in a recessed brick enclosure that kind of looks like a fireplace). She lands back on the wood stove. Deciding that the wood stove is not a good place to be standing at the moment. She jumps down and flies across the living room. Don't know where she went to as she appears to be hiding.

Don't know if the sizzling I heard was actually her paws, or just wishful thinking on my part

had a nephew touch the wood stove a few years back, my daughters told him to stay away from it cause it was hot, I don't know what he was thinking or trying to prove but he planted his hand right down on top, didn't take him long to figure out he couldn't hold it.

I just found kitty. She is fine. A little singed hair on her paws, and a little burn on the pads. Nothing serious though, I'll hook her up with a little rum in her water dish tonight. She'll be fine by morning

A few years ago one of my cats got too close to a fire I built in the back yard and burned all but about a 1/4" of her whiskers off.

Haha! Stupid cat! We have the best cat in the world. She's more like a dog. The only furniture or anything she will get up on is the couch, chair, or a bed. She doesn't get on counters or tables.

That reminds me of a story with one of my cats
several years ago .

I had the cast iron wood stove cranked up to where
it's flat black was turning that pale gray color .

Two of the cats were playing , doing the hunched
up hair on end thing circling each other .
Well Cat 1 was backing up with tail straight up
when it backed it's kitty sphincter right into
the lower lip of the stove

That cat shot away from that stove around mach 2
at about a 45° angle , 15 feet through the air
emitting a high pitched howl . It landed on the far
side of the room and skidded to a stop , still in the
hunched up hair on end mode .

It stood there eyes wide for about a second , then
swiveled around and sniffed its scorched ass .
Then it took off down the hall , across the kitchen
and out the kitty door so fast .  I swear it left a
vapor trail .

It didn't come back for 24 hrs , and when it did .
It spent the then next 2 days licking it's ass .

Now I know it's cruel to derive humor from what
must have been a very painful incident for the cat ,
but damn it was funny to see

My cat a few years ago asleep inches from a 300 watt halogen lamp.

Damn thing would sleep almost anyplace where the temp was 100+.

She'd sleep on the fireplace hearth just an inch or two from the screen.  I'd be expecting to smell singed fur every time.

During the winter I'd put out an electric heating pad on the couch.  She'd spend HOURS sleeping on it.

I'am no expert , But I don't like kitty cats either

Cats are desert animals with just great adaptability but they still LOVE the heat as long as it's a dry desert heat. Here in NY because it can reach 100% Humidity they just lounge around in the shade. But in the spring or fall when it reaches the 90's in the sunporch but low humidity they soak up the sun all day.
