Tag for curiousity.
I've seen a Semi (closed bolt)Thompson converted to open bolt FA/Safe ( no semi) as a post dealer sample. It was amazing how simple the conversion was. If the 86 ban is ever overturned I'm definitely in for one

The M1927 has a 16" BBL, whereas the M1921 had a 10.5"(?). I was thinking about buying one years ago, until I pick up 1927, that thing was heavy, and it had no mag. I can imagine the weight one with a 25round mag, or a 50 or 100 round drum mag. I got a Uzi Mod B instead with a 45ACP conversion kit.

when i was a kid i always wanted a thompson with the pistol grip foreend and a c drum like you saw in the gangster movies (and the famous winston churchill picture).
however my dad knew a guy that collected weapons and he had such a weapon. I remember picking it up (i was around 12) and the sucker was heavy and i lost a bit of my lust. they are cool, especially the older machined, not stamped ones (colts?). but dang if they aint a slug to pick up. m16 much nicer. |

I beleive all original Thompsons where open bolt including the semi auto 1927 [not the Kahr or Numirch arms]. The 21 was made by Colt and is selective fire and the 1927 was made by Auto Ord and semi auto. |

All Thompson's are machined.....the Colt 21 is the prettiest SMG ever built [IMO] the blueing on a friends old prision gun is almost Python quality.

I had a semi auto 1927a3 for awhile [got laid off and had to sell it] and yep it's heavy. Had 3ea 50 rd L drums and a 100rd C drum......think its heavy? hang two boxes worth of shells under it. But I loved that gun and will be getting another and SBRing it as so as I figure out if I'm moving to Louisville KY soon. |
