Has anyone used swissdisk.com, cryptoheaven.com, etc ?? I need secure (encrypted) online space to backup firearms records and scanned paper documents.  I want to have an offsite backup of the paper copies I keep in the gunsafe, in case of fire or flood.  Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks.

(Assume I don't trust relatives with a backup CD)

You should encrypt the file yourself before you send it out. Any online storage site then works fine, as long as they stay in business.

A CD of the file in a safe deposit box is another good backup. If you encrypt the file on the CD you can keep a copy at work too.

DVD-R backup at the parents house.

Wouldn't trust ANY "online" place for critical backups.

Lets assume I DON'T want to use a safety deposit box, and I DON'T want to leave a backup CD with relatives, friends, work, etc.

Well if you're not satisfied with any of the options listed above then I'd have to recommend the ne plus ultra in portable, secure personal storage...a Hitachi KTF series neural implant with Flynn interconnects...sure it's pricey but it's going in your head so decide how much that's worth to you.

If that's too rich for your blood then in the interim I'd recommed getting some cheap storage space on hosted webserver somewhere and just FTP the encrypted file there for safekeeping. Update as needed and it's available anywhere/anytime. DEFINITELY use good encryption software though regardless of where the info sits.
