So when sig brings in 550's (in 2012 or therabouts) what will this be worth?

Need to get DSA or ORF or JLD to make a US clone of the 550.
Nice design, but I don't want to pay markup caused by the '89 ban.

Last I heard the import ban is still in effect, has that changed?

Regardless, I still would not pay $9500 for the rifle in question.

Hopefully the rumored 550's with synthetic lowers will be around 1,700 or so............

Well sig has a manufacturing plant in NH, they currently only make pistol parts (they import the frames) I'm sure they could tool up and produce the 550. But there would have to be a demand.

Sorry I would rather give my money to Ronnie Barret for a new XM-107

When they are less than $2000 call me.

Sig will NEVER bring in 550's, even if they could. Swiss Arms (who makes the 550) will not export parts, for SigSauer (who makes pistols and has a plant here) to build up a rifle based on their receiver, or parts to build up one on SigSauer's receiver.

All that may EVER happen is SwissArms permits SigSauer to produce the 550 themselves, in its entirety, here in the US which is the only way to get around the import ban.

It might happen, but I'm not counting on it.

Even if it does happen, the SigSauer version will somehow be expedient and sub-par to the real deal. If you've seen a 550 up close, or any Swiss military arm, you'll realize why that is. If they made it as well as the Swiss do, no one would buy it because it'd be $3000.

Heck I've held one and seen the excellent workmanship used.....but how is that rifle worth 10 brand new AR15's ?

Alot of it is that it's the best of the "we can't have it guns", because in many ways the AR is a better gun.

But, if you are into Swiss rifles, it's a sweet AW. It's got AK reliability, truly, and AR accuracy. Yes, it's a smidge heavier than an AR, and not quite as modular, but it's got a great trigger, good sights, is comfortable and easy to shoot. The only thing I will slight it for is the AK-style mag changes, which are clunky.

And, if you lay your hands on one, you can see from buttstock to muzzle, it's machined and built with great care, the Swiss don't build anything half-ass.

It's sweet to fire, and as reliable as any Sig. Heavy, maybe, but the smooth gas piston system makes it worth it IMO. They are coming out with a lot more rails for them. DSArms carries a quite a few rail accessories now. My Brother in law's PD* uses the 552 as their primary Carbine, he loves them.

*He's a Sergeant in the Middlesborough PD, U.K.  They also have  MP5s, G3s and their service pistol is the Sig P226. Gone are the days of Bobbies with nightsticks.

I was able to hold one in 94 at our shop when one came in on consignment. $3500 then, the guy also had a Famas for the same price. Both sold that day. I didnt get to fire it though.

I must admit it was secksee.
