Members were telling me that my rifle might be malfunctioning because the spring could be in backwards, which way does the spring go in?

Looking from the bottom does the square at the bottom of the spring go towards the front or rear?

thanks-

The square is towards the front on mine.  I've never taken one apart, it's a little rusty.  Crap.

The end with the small loop goes to the forward edge of the follower. This keeps the bullet nose up.

If the small loop goes to-wards the front wouldn't the corresponding edge on the bottom also be to-wards the front??
