Hi Everyone,
I am going to buy a used handgun for carrying. I am looking to get one in either 9mm or 40 cal. I was about to purchase a glock 32 about an hour ago and then I was going to buya conversion barrel then I started looking at the USP compact. Damm, I cant make up my dam mind now. How do you all like you USP compacts compared to your compact glocks.

The G32 (and 19 and 23) are very nice handguns, for the price they are excellent. I like HK better personally, but the USP .45 Compact I own is just a little too small for my hand, which is why I am selling it. However, my G19 fits me very well.

They are both very good pistols.
However, if your HK breaks, send it off to HK for 6 weeks or so. ETA: HK USP pistols NEED an armorer to be repaired. If your Glock breaks, you can fix it yourself in a few minutes after waiting for the part to arrive. |

I find my G23 easier to shoot than my USP40C (snappy recoil), but everyone is different. But the USP45F is a joy to shoot.

I strongly suggest getting the P2000SK in 40. Glocks are good, HKs are sheer perfection. One thing I hate about the firearms we are allowed to buy is that for the most part, they seem to be manufactured in an industry that is 20 years behind the rest of modern industry. Thus you get a lot of variation in reliability, accuracy, workmanship, etc... between copies. Not with HKs. They are smooth as silk, eat anything, utterly reliable (my USPF 45 is the only firearm I've ever owned that's never jammed), and will last forever. The USP is a great shooter but the downfall is ergonomics IMO. The P2000s solve that plus they use a standard rail (finally!).

I have had both and eventually settled on the Glock 19. This was for one and only one reason, though - the Glock fit my hand better. During its tenure with me, the USP functioned 100% with everything I could feed it.
My opinion - see if you can try both and buy the one that fits you and shoots better for you. This is definitely a win-win decision! |

had both and setted on a sig220
out of the 2 the you listed i like HK a little better pick one up and bassically what ever feels better in your hand go for it, they are both good handguns, and will serve you well, the only thing that i like about HK better is they retain the value fairly well wheras the market is floded with glocks |

For the money, I'd get the Glock. H&K USP's are not $150 more reliable or accurate and the slides are wider making them more difficult/uncomfortable to conceal.

I have a USPc .40 (EDC) and a G26. I also have a few other things, but I will limit my post to these two guns...
I have also gotten plenty of trigger time on the G17, 19, 21, 22 & 34. I carry my HK religiously and the G26 sits in the range bag or times I need a smaller carry gun, which isn't often. I don't like the grip angle on the Glocks and tend to shoot other handguns much better than Glocks. To say I like the USPs better than Glocks would be an understatement. But, a Glock is like an AR; every gun nut should have one in their holster, range bag, safe, pocket, glovebox, etc. To say one is better than the other is an exercise in mental masturbation. Both are capable handguns that will serve a long duty life for their owner(s). I do like the option of different trigger/safety/action variants on the HK. I never got used to the Safe Action on the Glocks. Get both. |

I have pretty big hands, and I find I can shoot my USP40c alot more accurately than a G23. But on the other hand as someone else said, I can conceal my G22 much better than the USP even though it is full size. Also, I can shoot my G22 better than either pistol. But I love both my H&K and my Glock.

I shoot alot and I have had a wide variety of guns, something in just about every flavor at one time or another. I sold both of my Glocks this year because the didn't fit my hand well. Now I have an HK P2000, and I think that it is a very nice gun. I also have a couple of Sigs, and I am already a huge fan. However, my carry gun is a Springfield XD subcompact in 9mm. It's accurate, user friendly, pleasant to shoot and compact. I really can't think of anything that I would rather carry. |

I have 2 Glock 17s and an HK USP45
The HK sits in the safe and I shoot my older Glock all the time. And I mean all the time. Maintenance and trouble shooting is a breeze. Very accurate(as is the HK) and after a lot of practice I can really kick ass with it. After looking at 1911's, Sigs, HKs, etc I decided after a lot of thought that I am going with Glocks for my family and will buy a couple more before too long. As a result I also bought a lot of Glock spare parts for maintenance and repairs. Very complete amount of small parts for my Glocks(from CDNN) very, very cheap. Couldn't believe it. Mags are also cheap and easy to find. HK wants over $40 for one f'ing mag. What a ripoff. On top of the that, both my HK mags had the springs weaken in no time. I got replacement springs from Wolff but why the Hell should I? For that kind of cash I should get mags that arent' going to fail the 3rd time I shot the damn thing. Really soured me. And it got me to make FALs my main battle rifles instead of going for HK91's. Youcan also get 33rd Glock mags which is pretty damn sweet. The one thing you might not like on the Glock is the safety. Trigger discipline is essential or you will shoot yourself or someone else. That, however, is something you should have anyway. Glocks are awesome IMO. Will get a G26 and either another G17 or a G19. I'd go with a 9mm. Not a .40 fan and if you can shoot what you aim at it will do the job. Ammo options abound and that also solves any concerns with 9mm IMO. I like the higher capacity anyhow. I'll take 17 rounds of 9mm anyday, and fill my target with half a mag in under 2 secs. And yeah, I do practice that.

One thing i would like to say about striker and single action fired pistols is that what happens when you pull the trigger and it does not fire. With a DA you can pull the trigger again and more often than not it will fire on the second try. With a striker or single action you have to reset the action all together it does not make much of a difference when at the range but in when your adrenaline is pumping and you are pulling away at that trigger it could matter. Of course proper training and a cool head go a very long way.

Get the Glock.
The HK isn't a bad gun, but it isn't worth the extra money if you aren't scared to carry a pistol with no external safety. |

Go to Thunder Ranch or Gunsirte for a week with whatever handgun you currently own. If at the end of the week you must have a new handgun, then buy the same make and model that had the least malfunctions and highest scores in the class.

No, a Glock is very easy to tear down and rebuild. There isn't a part on one I couldn't replace in short time. But they do run and run and run. |

My now-closed indoor range had a rental Glock 17 that shot 500,000 rounds before cracking the slide(which was replaced); and when the range closed, the G17 had shot 750,000 "official" rounds. The range management knows that customers had smuggled in extra rounds from Wall-Mart etc. I doubt that you will break anything, before you go bankrupt shooting the Glock in an attempt to break it. The counter jockeys only clean the gun when the customer complains of jamming and only very cursory. |

Thanks for you opinions guys. I only have $550 so I think I am going to go with the G23 3rd gen. And then purchase the 9mm conversion barrel so I can shoot both calibers.
But ,,,the G32 I was looking at was only $400 but its a 357 sig. I guess I can always buy conversion barels to shoot 9mm or 40 cal out of it. So I still have some deciding to do but it will be a glock,So if anyone has a kick butt deal on a G23 or ? let me know. thanks Brian |
