...WAR would you have wanted to serve in?
Revolutionary war? War of 1812? Civil War? First World War? Second World War? Korea?..... Me? NOW, I wish I would have been born to fight NOW! I was in the Army Reserve during the first Gulf war and I don't have a clue how my number didn't get picked. I already put my 12 in and my body is too old and damaged now for going back. Plus, I am over the age limit. I know a lot of people don't like the Iraq war, and I am one who thinks it's going to end up in a nightmare, but I would have wanted to go on this one. Though I probably would have gotten in trouble for shooting anyone that "looks" like I needed to shoot them.  My dad was in WW2 and that would have been my second choice. 82nd or 101st at Normandy,  Might not have made it out but it would have been an expericene par none. So if you had to go to war, which one would it have been? |

Not really planning on 200+ yard shots in addition to very heavy jackets a la Korea. I'd much rather have a M1 Carbine over a Garand for clearing a French village. |

My Grandfather was in the European Theater, landed at Normandy and ended up getting wounded and sent home just before the Battle Of The Bulge kicked in. He hated the M1 Carbine, I will always remember the time I told him I wanted one, and he said it wasnt worth a damn, said he had several instances where it failed to stop, before he mananged to get hold of a M1 Garand again. I guess the funniest thing he ever said about it was that it was only designed so pansy officers wouldnt have to carry the heavy M1 Garand.  I realize thats only one persons opinion, but he favored the Garand over anything else. I have also talked to WW II vets that preferred the M1 Carbine and didnt like the Garand. |

I remember that someone told me that a Garand kicked hard. I must have laughed for a solid 10 seconds. I then let them shoot my 8mm Czech 24/47 shooting Turk ammo (154gr @ 2950fps). Remember kids, steel buttplates do not yeild.
Theatre of choice: WWII, Europe. After the initial invasion. Sorry, but "Sitting Duck" is not the game I partake in willingly. |

Now that I think of it, the Crusades wouldve been fun as long as I had plenty of food and water at my disposal along with said 240B from earlier post with unlimited ammo and spare barrels, a good supply of claymores and frags, and my 1911. Imagine the devastation I could do to Hadjis that actually met you on the battlefield instead of ducking and running like the present day cowards do.

I wish I was born in 1980-1982 (the year I went to basic training). Then I could serve NOW. The service needs people. The cause is right. And I feel so damned left out (waaaahhhhh). If not that, then I would want to be in Vietnam with Chuck Norris so we could win. |

Sounds exactly like mine  Grandfather. Europe. 36th Armored Infantry. Fought in Bulge. Hated M1 Carbine. "only for pansy officers". He did some village clearing, and he did a lot of "run ahead and see if there is a booby trap or ambush up there". |

The Army now is the best trained, best equipped we've ever fielded.
Definitly now. That said; The opportunity to serve with the 55th, 26th, or 7th Regiment of NC Infantry during the war between the states runs high on the ballot. |

well your chances for survial would be a lot better in more recent conflicts. As much as I like studying history of WW2 and Vietnam, I would NOT want to have served then. I give lots of credit to those that did.

I would have to say OIF. I would never want to be in any war prior to WW2. I'm a big fan of modern medicine and surgical procedures. Prior to WW2, being wounded was just as good as dead.

I don't think I would wish to witness some of that horrible carnage that was combat in WWII, but if I did choose I think I would go to Vietnam. I would have liked to have been around in the 60s just to see what it was like. I'd definately like to go back and meet the guy on the MIA bracelet I've been wearing for 15+ years.

LRRPS or MACV/SOG (preferably SOG) or 1965 in the Ia Drang valley. My extremely good friend of the family said he met Moore a few times and talked with him on a couple instances. Said he really was an outstanding officer and an even better guy.
