Washington-  Senators Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein were all smiles Wednesday when President Bush signed a new assault weapons ban into law.

"We worked with many interest groups to improve upon the original assault weapons ban which shamefully sunsetted in 2004. We went against the radical gun policy of the NRA." Feinstein, newly appointed chairwoman of the Judiciary Committee announced to reporters.

"This ban is a big step forward over the orginal ban. For example thumbhole magazines are clearly defined as pistol grips. They are banned on rifles and shotguns now. The old ban was not clear. This one is." Senator Schumer continued further.

The Assault Weapons Reauthorization Bill passed the Senate 65-25 last Tuesday. For the past Congress when Republlicans had sway they blocked renewal of the popular ban. Democrats won back Congress in November and made passing a new ban the top priority.

"This is great! A new ban was certainly needed." said a smiling Harry Reid, senate Majortiy Leader.

It's called 2006 is an election year and you'd better not let the Democrat gun banners back in charge of Congress if you value the Second Amendment!

You and I know that.

Chafee (R) RI

Voinovich (R) OH
Smith (R) OR
Lugar(R) IN
Warner (R) VA

and you know McCain wanted to but he has to worry about the POTUS election in 2008.

Reality is the credible source, all the AWB needs is a floor vote and it will be law once again. Too many RINOs as mentioned in my post above for us to be without it for more than a few more years.

ETA: The only thing against it now in the Senate is that it can't get out of the committee. The House I have a little more faith in. The rural Democrats no it is a dangerous topic for them.

May 2007: Today the supreme court in it's first ruling on the second ammendment in a generation ruled that the over 80 year old firearms law that outlawed machineguns and create gun control as we used to know it was struck down by the court in a watershed 6-3 ruling

There is a lot of talk, but neither party has forgotten the lessons of 1994. That ban was not popular, despite what Dan Rather told you.

Even Clinton knows better. I don't think she will allow it to even come up for a vote, she doesn't want that right before her big run for the Pres.

2009 is the year, if she wins.

Election 2008:  The majority of Democratic Representatives lost their seats again after supporting the 2nd Assault Weapons Ban.  President Clinton is going to have a hard time pushing her agenda with the Republicans contolling both houses, just like her husband did during his Presidency.

2014 President Clinton is accused of having oral sex with one of her interns.

2017 Second Assault weapons Ban sunsets... By then Fienstein should be worm food.

They don't have the floor votes, because several Dems voted against renewal...including Feingold and Landrieu...

ETA...I was wrong: www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=2&vote=00024

ETA part2...Daschle is gone, I'm assuming Thune would be against it, but I could be wrong. It would be closer. There is no getting around the fact that here in OH we are represented by pure RINO asshats...

Sorry, this won't fly.  If the AWB becomes law again it will NOT have a sunset clause.  The Leftists will learn from their mistake...

Bullshit!

Change the date to early 2009 and have the Democrats in the majority in congress and Hillary Clinton seated in the Oval Office and YES...that and FAR more draconian anti-gun bills will be FLYING out of the White House with HER sig on them.

Failing that...I say again...BULLSHIT!

The "sunset clause" was the only way they got the AWB passed in the first place, and then just barely.  It would not have been passed without it.

Now that is has been clearly seen that the AWB had no effect on gun crimes, nor did it's sunset cause an increase in gun crimes, it would be very difficult to pass another AWB.
