Man Sues AOL Saying He Was Humiliated In Chat Room
2 Others Named In Lawsuit

UPDATED: 11:00 am EST December 19, 2005

MEDINA, Ohio -- A squabble in an online chat room has landed in an Ohio court.

A man in Medina County said he was humiliated online by two other chat participants and has sued them and America Online for refusing to do anything about it.

A hearing on some of the issues is set for Jan. 10 in Medina County Common Pleas Court.

George Gillespie said the two men made his life so miserable that they've inflicted emotional distress.

The suit was filed in September. Gillespie contends one of the defendants came from Alabama to Ohio to file a change of address form for Gillespie to disrupt Gillespie's mail service.

Meanwhile, the second defendant, from Oregon, blames Billespie for causing problems.

Nicholas Graham is an AOL spokesman. He would not comment about the specifics of the case. But he said AOL has a strict code of conduct that it expects members to follow.

Harrassing someone directly (screwing up the mail) would be cause for a lawsuit.
