But Richmond Police Beef Up Street Presence After Robbery Increase
12-21-2005 6:23 AM

(Richmond, VA) -- Richmond Police say they are beefing up their presence on the streets following a 27-percent increase in robberies this month compared to a year ago. Police say they have already pulled about 100 officers out of the office and given them a beat patrol and they are also teaming up with Virginia State Police and agencies in neighboring counties to curb the crime wave. Close to 30 robberies have occurred on the city's south side in the past 30 days. Many of the thieves have turned violent, shooting their victims even though they often get what they want without a struggle. Police Chief Rodney Monroe says there is no common thread to the thefts.

The next to last sentence should be shared with the folks preaching don't resist, give then what they want and you'll be fine. The simplistic view that robbery is just about the money has some harsh consequences.

IMO this seems to be taking the trend of home invasions in Australia and Great Britian. Maybe with people being so sheepish and compliant towards robbers, the robbers aren't getting enough of a thrill and therefore inflict harm to satisfy their evilness.

Hope our fellow brothers and sisters are taking note in the Richmond area.
