The Rem 710's are pure crap from what I have seen in the shop. If you are on a tight budget and want a nice bolt gun try the new Stevens/Savage Mdl 200. They are around $225 to $235 wholesale and they often sell for under $275 retail. They are chambered from 223 all the way up to 300 win mag.
The Stevens is almost a copy of the Savage 110/10 action with a cheaper stock, old style Savage trigger and a simple matte blue finish. For the money we have been very happy with the ones we have seen. I am customizing a 300 win mag version to sell right now. The only draw back with them is they are very light so be willing to take some extra recoil from the magnum rounds if that is your choice of chambering.
Some other nice bolt guns for the money are the Howa from Japan (Used by Weatherby in the Vanguard) and the Charles Daly Mausers from Yugoslavia. I really like the Howas and they make really nice actions. Please save you money and buy a rifle that you will be happy with.
It has been really sad how far Rem's quality has fallen on some guns I have seen in the last year or two. The 710's and the Viper are pure junk that Rem should have never put their name on.
Merry Christmas......
