So I was giving a web presentation / demo on a unit testing tool that I wrote to some contractors that we hired to do some Oracle porting for us. The participants were here in VT, in Boston, and in India. I was demoing the tool by sharing my PCs screen while talking on the teleconference. I was about finished with the presentation when one of my coworkers popped an IM on my screen.

What are they asking for, blowjobs?

I was mortified and closed the IM window ASAP. The real problem is that the entire presentation was being recorded for training purposes.

So, let that be a lesson to you all: don't leave IM up when sharing your screen with people all over the world.

That's like the lesson I learned in the corporate world:  "don't say fuck in a national conference call"

I work for my fucking self now.

I don't have access to the recording since I did not setup the conference...I'm hoping no one notices it.

A finance guy I know  got off a video conference with his boss and exclaimed "That was fucking waste of time".

The video had closed down, but the audio didn't.  He lost his job over that one.

A lot people I know have a presentation login to their laptop or computer that is bare bones (no personal docs, pics, or programs) just so that they can avoid this sort of thing.   For example, in XP people often go to recent files to bring something up and in the list if everything you recently opened (including those stuffed pooper pics).

I was giving a demo through a projector in front of about 50 people. I had to go to a URL, but fat-fingered it.

It took me to a porn site that had some chick with a dick in her mouth and her ass.

Talk about "oopsie"

This is why I use a secondary program.  I use DeadAIM.  Not AIM.  It has tabbed windows, so IM's simply appear inside an already open IM window as a tab, and DO NOT pop up on the screen.

You can open one window, minimize it, and never have to worry about an IM popping up.

I was forced to take some technology class... Much of it was Internet based and on the giant screens infront of class. All the friggin time porn pop-ups would pop up, it was sort of funny considering the instructor was a fairly old lady.

Not nearly as funny and the above though.

I worked with a guy that made that mistake.

He was giving a presentation at the monthly manager's meeting, and a popup from his wife says..

"The Job Offer just came in the mail honey!"

He had his sound turned up too...

No one missed it.

He no longer works here

Of course not, he got the job offer.  DUH

Man I can only wish something funny like that would happen during some of those boring meetings I have to sit though.

I think it's funny too. The guy who sent the IM was sweating it all morning. Turns out that no one in the meeting saw it but me. They'll have a suprise when they play back the recording.

I don't know if this program does the same thing, but I have Gaim, which is AIM without all the BS.  I wouldn't even dream of using any Instant Messenger at work.

BTW-That really sucks Cynic.  I hope your employer noticed that.

You think that's bad....my boss found my blog about work last week.

Her: "Um...I think you ought to take that down."

Me:""

Don't think anyone noticed. Besides, it is not my problem...I didn't send the IM.

I see now.  Nevertheless, they're misusing company IM.

And what I meant was I hope your employer noticed this d*ckhead sending the IM.
