Put your finger in a lake. When you pull your finger out, that's how much of a hole most people leave when they die. The rippling in the water is similar the grieving/memory of those who knew you. Strong at first, quickly fading to nothing.
The wording is probably not exact, as that is from a book I read 25-30 years ago (I think it was probably a Louis L'Amour western), but it's close enough to get the idea across. When I read that, I was between 10 and 15 years old. It's one of those lines that just stuck with me ever since. Most likely because it's been proven true by so many, so many times over the years. |
