EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT / CAREER EXECUTIVE

The International Hunter Education Association is initiating recruitment for the organization’s Executive Vice President and Career Executive Officer. The EVP provides oversight for an internationally recognized conservation and education organization specifically focused towards hunter education.

Responsibilities: This position directs the affairs of the IHEA office and supervises the office staff; coordinates the work of the staff as well as numerous committees and task forces; conducts functional audits of the IHEA office; develops and maintains partnerships with various stakeholders and conservation groups; participates in annual conferences representing the IHEA interests; oversees the 5 comprehensive focus areas of the IHEA; assists in establishing priorities, annual and long term budget planning, annual and long range strategic plans, educational goals, objectives and work plans for the IHEA and IHEA staff. This position additionally provides programmatic direction and support to 67 hunter education administrators and over 70,000 paraprofessional volunteer hunter education instructors. This position requires advanced management experience consistently applied in developing new concepts, methodologies, policies and program initiatives.

Salary: The starting salary range will be $60,000 - $70,000, but will be negotiable depending on individual qualifications and experience. The job provides excellent benefits. A two-year career executive trial period may be required. Employment will be by contract.

Special Note: (1) Applicants must possess a current hunting license in the jurisdiction where they reside; (2) must have completed four years of higher education (i.e. at least 120 academic credits) or experience equaling four years in the administration of a hunter education program or conservation organization education program; (3) successful completion of a background investigation; (4) be willing to relocate and work out of the IHEA Office in Wellington, CO; (5) this position is supervised by the IHEA Board which is comprised of hunter education administrators / coordinators and volunteer hunter education Instructors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: State and federal laws, statutes and administrative code as related to natural resources; state and federal laws as related to operation of a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization; management principles of policy development, work planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and developing budgetary information; deliver clear and concise presentations; be willing to travel extensively; work with a variety of partnerships and general interest groups; be able to work with and understand needs of hunter education administrators/coordinators; understand and work with to meet the needs of volunteer instructors and instructor associations; have good written and verbal communication skills; be able to delegate authority and responsibility; be able to follow directions as well as guiding and directing the IHEA Board; facilitate meetings; have an understanding of North American conservation and wildlife issues; have ability and experience with resource and fund development; exhibit a clear vision of what the IHEA could and should become; have a solid track record for organizational growth and change; be able to establish and maintain appropriate stature and standing in the hunting and outdoor community; problem solve effectively; have the ability to multitask; be driven by personal/professional integrity, and put the IHEA at the center of his/her professional life; exhibit and provide leadership; exhibits good people skills; be able to switch fluidly from results to process orientation.
