Trying to prevent a smelly situation backfired on a Benton County Commissioner. On august 11, a skunk walked into the county courthouse. Commissioner Max Benitz says animal control wouldn't get rid of the skunk. So, he went home, grabbed his 22-caliber rifle and shot the unwelcomed guest. Now, the city of Prosser is charging Benitz not for killing the animal, but for firing a gun in public. The city says the crime is a gross misdemeanor. If Benitz is convicted, he could face up to a year in jail. Benitz says he still thinks he did the right thing.
