Something here does not compute....is it the reporting? Is the gunowner a wackjob? Is the guy lying? Say what, over?

Gun teaches a lesson in road rage
A driver shouts to a slow mover on Spring Hill Drive, then tailgates.
The woman's brother whips out a pistol. The shouter vows to muzzle his

SPRING HILL - Bobbie Aldridge has been physically ill since Wednesday when
Jeffrey P. Donadio pulled a gun on her husband in an ugly road rage
incident
along Spring Hill Drive.

"It just keeps going through my head. If (Donadio) pulled that trigger,
what would
I be telling my children? It's scary. And to know that it happens all
the time out
there," she said. "The reality scares me to death."

Her husband, John Aldridge, 41, also admitted Thursday to having learned a
lesson. He's done with sticking his head out the window to shout at even
the
most belligerent driver.

"I'll keep my mouth shut," he said.

The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. on Spring Hill Drive near
California Street.

Aldridge of Spring Hill was headed east on Spring Hill Drive when he got
stuck
behind two slow-moving cars, one in each lane. He tried to get around a
Hyundai
Santa Fe, driven by Valerie Helton, 52, of Spring Hill. But the Santa Fe
slowed
down on purpose, Aldridge said.

He began to tailgate and was busy thinking up some choice words for the
car's
passenger and driver. When Aldridge finally managed to pass Helton's
car, he
stuck his head out the window to hurl an obscenity at the passenger, who he
believed was urging the driver to slow down. But he got out only one
word before
Helton's brother, Donadio, pointed a .32-caliber handgun at him from the
pass-
enger window. Aldridge hit the brakes.

Donadio told Deputy Jimmie Gibson he was afraid because Aldridge was
tailgating him and that he took the gun out of the vehicle's center
console and
held it against his chest.

When Aldridge called the Hernando County Sheriff's Office on his cell
phone,
the Santa Fe took off. Aldridge followed. The Santa Fe went east on
Spring Hill
Drive, pulled off the road, then cut over a ditch and raced west on
Spring Hill
Drive. Aldridge followed in his red Dodge pickup truck.

The chase took a right onto Barclay Avenue and headed north, stopping at
Barclay and Powell Road just long enough, Aldridge said, for Helton to get
out of the car and berate him. All the while, Aldridge was on the phone
with
the Sheriff's Office, whose deputies were trying to locate the two cars. He
kept his windows rolled up. Helton got back in the car and drove north on
Barclay until she reached Cortez Boulevard, where the two cars pulled over
in a parking lot. That's when the deputies intervened.

Donadio was charged with aggravated assault. The revolver had five bullets
in it. It was owned by Helton, who had a license to carry it concealed.

Deputies took Donadio to the Hernando County Jail.

Jail employees said Thursday he had been released from custody but
could provide no other information.

What, exactly, was Aldridge telling the SO?

"Yeah, I was tailgating a car, and when I went to pass it on the right and call the driver a bunch of names, the passenger had a gun. So I continued to tailgate the car, including through a ditch. Please come arrest the driver so the car isn't in my way anymore. I have to get to the car wash!"

The road rager got no charges?  That's a 7000 lb weapon he was menacing the other family with.

I think the second guy should not have received any charges at all.  He was threatened by an armed (The truck) asshat and moved to defend his family.
